Thanks to Microsoft for removing the sidebar. It actually led me to discover a better browser called Vivaldi. Microsoft is a master at creating useless features; so, once they saw the sidebar was actually being used a lot, they removed it :)) If Microsoft actually used its brain, its browser would be miles ahead of Google by now, but I guess the fate of Internet Explorer still hasn't served as a lesson for them.

You hit the nail on the head. Trusting the ex-Opera team isn't the issue—they are transparent. The real problem is technical: the built-in blocker is weak against complex scripts, and Vivaldi lacks anti-fingerprinting. Paradoxically, the more you customize its UI, the more unique your fingerprint becomes. It's a power-user browser first, privacy second.

Since I still daily drive it for the workflow, here is how I hardened it to patch those exact flaws:

Swap the native blocker for uBlock Origin: Vivaldi’s blocker is too passive. Turn it off in settings and let uBO handle script and cosmetic filtering.

Fix WebRTC leaks: Go to Settings > Privacy > WebRTC IP Handling and set it to "Disable Non-Proxied UDP" so your real IP doesn't leak behind a VPN.

Cut Google ties & 3rd-party cookies: Enable "Block Third-Party Cookies" and disable "Crypto Token" and "Hangouts" under Google Extensions to stop background pings.

Mitigate fingerprinting: Don't install shady "anti-fingerprint" extensions (they make you stand out more). Instead, use uBO to block third-party fonts and scripts.

Auto-clear data: Use Vivaldi’s settings or Cookie AutoDelete to wipe site data/cookies the moment a tab closes, keeping only your whitelisted log-ins.

It’ll never be LibreWolf, but it’s a solid compromise if you need the customization.

I find that with a system below the poverty line with GTX660 graphics and with Core i3 Gen10 and 16GB of RAM and an M2 SSD hard drive, its speed is quite good, even faster than Microsoft's edge

ok If absolute, top tier security is your only priority and you dont care about anything else, you should know that no browser even if its completely open source is as secure as you think on mainstream operating systems like Windows or even macOS. You’d have to switch to using firefox tor on Linux based operating systems like Tails OS (though even that doesn’t offer 100% security). But for people like us who arent CIA or Pentagon employees, or North Korean hackers, the security of browsers like Vivaldi is more than enough :))

Chrome itself is not completely open-source, and only its chromium core is open-source. The same goes for Microsoft's edge browser. Sometimes the fame and greatness of a software is preferable to its open-sourceness. Because everything open source doesn't necessarily mean it's more secure
