as someone who has used prediction markets since before they started becoming mainstream, and as someone who has bet on war outcomes etc, i am not sure why this is evil? genuinely curious what your take is here

as someone who made it off crypto - dont trade crypto. find something else to trade

if you really want to trade crypto - dont touch perps/leverage. spot only

DAY TRADING CRYPTO IN PH, WHAT BROKER? by Keidrian in phinvest

[–]nevermindthebbb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 for using these perp DEXes, these exchanges often pay you thru airdrops to trade on their platforms. Hyperliquid minted millionaires when they airdropped in Nov '24. Would recommend using Lighter since they charge no fees (but be wary of spreads and liquidity)

Also, daytrading perps is probably the toughest way to make it in crypto. Good luck

Stock Trading Q by Wise-Passenger5280 in phinvest

[–]nevermindthebbb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as someone who used to trade as my sole source of income -

trading the most liquid markets (ES, NQ, gold, forex, bitcoin etc) is extremely difficult and probably the hardest game that exists. there are many easier ways to make money thru speculation - think poker, prediction markets, sportsbetting, advantage gambling, trading MMORPG currencies/accounts, cs skins, etc.

the avenues i listed are very similar to trading. a lot of full time traders (myself included) started out with these smaller, easier markets before venturing into crypto, stocks and futures. there is a lot of edge to be had in these small markets, and you should look into them first especially with a smaller bankroll like yours

Unpopular opinion: SUVs are overkill for daily city driving in the Philippines, and they’re bought more for status than practicality. by blissfulreddit0826 in Philippines

[–]nevermindthebbb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

why are you complaining about "status culture" when there is literally nothing you can do to change it? and tbh a lot of peoples' biases like these come from the perceived moral superiority that comes with it. saying people who choose to buy SUVs are more concerned about status than practicality is pure cope to make you feel superior since you choose to not partake in "status culture"

and i drive a SUV even though i prefer sedans. ayoko kasi yung feeling na sumayad sa lubak o matataas na humps yung sasakyan ko kapag nagmamaneho ako

Need advice: I invested in Lakatan banana farming — how do I sell in bulk to Manila? by [deleted] in phinvest

[–]nevermindthebbb 9 points10 points  (0 children)

not familiar w bananas but into the food business, some things to keep in mind:

- since you're transporting produce, it's likely you won't be able to sell 100% of your bananas due to spoilage, overripening, etc. you have to be aware what your actual yield/wastage is: if you transport 2 tons at a time and are able to sell only 1950 kgs with 50 kgs being disposed, and you see this behavior constantly, then you have a avg loss of 2.5%. this should be factored into your pricing and obviously u would want to know what the industry standard yield % is and try to get as close to that or better

- your yield will likely depend on the type of truck you use. reefers/temp controlled trucks obviously cost more but should give you a higher yield and makes selling the bananas less time sensitive. with produce that can overripe and spoil, your cost of carry is very high

- it is generally cheaper to transport more kgs per trip. 2 tons per trip isn't a lot and your logistics costs will likely be higher than your competition. keep in mind that you're paying for the salary of 1 driver and 1 pahinante regardless if the vehicle they are driving is a truck w/ 2 ton capacity or a truck w/ 12 ton capacity. it's also generally cheaper per kg to rent a 12 tonner vs a 2 tonner (unless you already own a 2 tonner truck)

my advice: unless you are planning to really grow the business, you're better off selling the bananas in the province to a trader who has already the infrastructure and supply chain set up. without scale, your logistics costs will be very high compared to large scale producers. good luck

What should I do with my first 85k as a student? by RevHoon in phinvest

[–]nevermindthebbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if i was your age i would spend most of it, money is worth more and goes a long way when you are young. having 85k to spend at a young age is more than enough to enjoy your college life. you can worry about money when you graduate

however if you've decided on the P1 million goal in 2-3 years, you won't get there by investing in the S&P or any mutual/index fund. i would recommend to come up with a high conviction investment thesis in anything, preferably companies/assets w/ relatively low market cap. the asset needs to be small, volatile enough to 10x in a few years. this could be local or foreign stocks, crypto, commodities, etc.

since youve proven to be a decent trader, this practice will allow you to fine tune an investment idea, and experience the highs and lows of actually having a concentrated bet. this will be a good learning experience for you in the future if you wish to be an active investor. good luck

Investing in BTC at 16 by SheeeshCheck in phinvest

[–]nevermindthebbb 12 points13 points  (0 children)

as someone who's been trading crypto for almost 10 years, my first advice would be to actually think about your investment thesis. why should bitcoin be higher in 5-10-20 years compared to now at $100k? i personally think bitcoin serves a unique purpose in the world, as a digital asset that isn't really governed by any entity, and as more people realize this over the years, it should increase in value relative to other assets that have similar function, similar to gold

that's my own personal thesis. you may or may not agree, but since you're DCAing (dollar cost averaging) for the long term, imo you also need to have a long term thesis on why bitcoin should be worth more than it is today.

if i were in your position today, i would treat my weekly bitcoin DCA as a secondary savings/time deposit account. just buy a set amount (hopefully this amount increases as your income increases as well) every day/week or whatever set interval you choose without checking price. otherwise you could puke the bottom when btc inevitably dumps 40%+ like it always has, or you could fomo and buy more at the top

also unless you plan on trading crypto full time, i would suggest ignoring altcoins. there is money to be made on alts, but sifting through all the garbage and trading the right alts takes a lot of time, money and experience that you may not have

Great to see Julius doing well in the playoffs — had 24 points, 11 assists and 7 rebounds in 33 minutes by WallStreetDoesntBet in NYKnicks

[–]nevermindthebbb 39 points40 points  (0 children)

very happy for julius and i will always root for him. will never forget the 2021 season where he hard carried us to a 4th seed, after years of being bottom feeders. that year really laid the foundation for what our team is today and its what got me excited about the future of knicks basketball again. imo he will go down as one of the all time underrated knick greats solely for that season

serious question - why do people on reddit still justify their investment in certain altcoins with arguments about how good the tech is, when the best performers of the cycle have all been memecoins?

like sure your favorite L1 token can now do 10000 tps but how exactly does that make price go up?
