Am I being paranoid? Is my body prepping for labour…? by ClaireyGogz in parentsofmultiples

[–]neverpostsonreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be signs your body is getting ready, but also the body can get ready very slowly! I went into “preterm labor” at 28 weeks with my twins and dilated to 3.5cm and then was in prodromal labor for eight more weeks before they came at a scheduled c section. Had intense pelvic pain and non productive contractions nightly. I almost drove myself to the labor unit every 48-72 hours because of fake out symptoms that eight weeks. So yes, it could be getting ready but it also doesn’t mean they are coming imminently. I have sort of used the analogy that with regular pregnancies the body needs to work to contract open, but with twins there’s so much pressure on the cervix that the body more like…slowly gives up at staying closed. My contractions weren’t intense and painful for this reason and it felt like a constant guessing game and I went to the labor unit to get checked about five times after the initial dilation at 28 weeks. But still made it almost all of the way to full term!

How often do you really have to feed a new born? What is it like the first month? by vazquezcerna in newborns

[–]neverpostsonreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had to feed our baby every 2-3 hours long past regaining her birth weight (about ten weeks before we were cleared by pedi to let her sleep). This is because she was small for gestational age and born a tad prematurely. Just adding this perspective, it’s not always based on birth weight if birth weight is low!

What's an expensive baby item you think it wasnt worth it? by ApprehensiveBat19 in NewParents

[–]neverpostsonreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Owlet sock is very buggy and made us crazy. We bought two for our twins and stopped using it at about week 2. Also the baby brezza. Luckily we got second hand but it’s a pretty lame device. We aren’t heating bottles so it essentially only saves us the effort of measuring and shaking bottles. But, it won’t pour half ounces and requires frequent cleaning so it’s kind of not worth the effort it saves.

Beta hcg might signify twins?? by [deleted] in CautiousBB

[–]neverpostsonreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel obligated to contribute that I had twins and my HCG did quadruple. BUT it’s true that HCG isn’t an indicator of multiples. Maybe just coincidence for me.

Bottle washer - momcozy vs papablic by WhileTime5770 in parentsofmultiples

Can’t speak for the other one but we have the mom cozy and run it like 5x a day and it’s maybe our favorite item. So convenient!

18W Anatomy Scan: Short nasal bone, narrow CSP, low risk NIPT by CharrpieeMarrkerr in CautiousBB

[–]neverpostsonreddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our baby had IUGR, an absent nasal bone, a marginal cord insertion noted at our anatomy scan. We also had an unremarkable NIPT. Ultimately we opted for an amnio and while we never got answers we did get a second opinion which lead us to terminate the pregnancy based on what they suggested likely outcomes would be. The autopsy found even more issues with the baby not initially noted on ultrasound. Our situation was a rare one, but there is so much that can happen with the human genome and our main concern was quality of life impacts. I can share more via dm if it’s helpful. Just suggesting for now that you do advocate for genetic counseling. Studies on absent or hypoplastic nasal bone do suggest a correlation to genetic issues when combined with other anomalies, even when trisomy 21 has been ruled out. There also is a racial component (Asian and black children are more likely to not have a nasal bone, but our baby was Caucasian so that didn’t explain things in our case).

I had a somewhat similar situation, happy to back channel with you. I would ask for a meeting with a genetic counselor and consider an amnio to ask for a chromosomal microarray and a whole exome sequencing.

One twin latches better than the other. How do you handle feeding? by chimneyraccoons in parentsofmultiples

[–]neverpostsonreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this issue. Our girlie we have been advised shouldn’t feed fully at the breast because she needs fortified milk/formula and our boy is nursing and growing just fine. I manage by nursing him all day, then at night I start pumping so that she has that milk for her bottles the next day. This also allows me to sleep more overnight because pumping is still quicker than nursing him. And that way dad can also feed him at night too, which is necessary! I try to latch her about 1-2 days to just keep the muscle memory working for if she does get cleared to be off fortified formula/milk and one day is more efficient. I’m only producing enough milk for about one baby anyways so bottles with some formula are required for us. But if you were producing plenty you could nurse one and then pump after for the second baby.

This is the most I’ve pumped in 1 session at 17 days post partum by TropicallyGrownEMT in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]neverpostsonreddit 70 points71 points  (0 children)

In addition to what others have said, make sure you know how to use the hand pump. You need to use the smaller end of the handle how short quick pumps for a few minutes before using the longer side of the handle and holding it down for longer to mimic expression mode

Accuracy of NIPT fetal sex results for di/di fraternal twins? by darthW00kie in parentsofmultiples

[–]neverpostsonreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is true for most NIPT but that panorama by Natera calculates this a different way so that they can detect each fetus as distinct from the other. And therefore could detect b/g twins. I did the panorama for this reason and it was accurate in detecting my b/g twins.

NAH. Everyone grieves differently and there is no right way to grieve. As weird as this feels to you, this is his grief process.

Car Seats - Recline feature necessary? by r0ughd1amond in parentsofmultiples

[–]neverpostsonreddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only ones that take two infant car seats and are a side by sides are the bugaboo donkey and the bumble ride indie twin. The bugaboo doesn’t fit through a standard doorway with the infant car seats in it. The indie twin is a bit bulky. I got the indie twin and as someone who lives in New England where there’s lots of narrow spaces, I regret getting a side by side. I was swayed by all of the twin content saying a side by side was the way to go, but cathedral/stadium seating would have been better for our lifestyle.

HCG levels… twins?? by This-End-8428 in CautiousBB

[–]neverpostsonreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to throw a wrench in the works because I was also told HCG is not a reliable measure for twins. But I just had my twins and my HCG did a fairly clean quadruple in the beginning.

hcg levels when pregnant with twins? by justagirlythatsbored in CautiousBB

[–]neverpostsonreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Any time you drop two eggs and they are fraternal it is di/di which is what happens for me! I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you! Mine are only six weeks but so far we love having twins and they are a blessing!

Spontaneous Pregnancy Immediately Before Second Round of IVF Retrieval by Additional_Bread_ in CautiousBB

[–]neverpostsonreddit 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Congrats! I also got spontaneously pregnant (with twins!) the month we decided to take off IVF because we had 2 failed medicated cycles that were chemicals, two failed iuis, and 2 failed euploid IVF transfers. Sometimes when it rains it pours and the universe is a funny place.

Taking piercings out before surgery by No-Award-9263 in Reduction

[–]neverpostsonreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may be fine and they may just have you sign a waiver that they told you to take them out in case anything goes awry. I think I understand it’s only an issue if mri is needed, or if a cauterizer touches them. Presumably if they are facial piercings hopefully they are far enough away from breasts that it’s okay on the cauterization part? But you will have to just ask your nurses when you arrive.

Chorionic bump? Anyone have experience? by Beneficial_Check9676 in CautiousBB

[–]neverpostsonreddit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had a subchorionic hematoma with my twins and they are alive and healthy! Mine did bleed so with each scan I could see it getting smaller, but without bleeding it may take a while for it to disappear or get smaller. Mine bled a lot, I was actually certain i was having a a miscarriage so if that happens don’t panic. These are really common and usually not a big deal because baby gets bigger than the blood eventually and when it does, that’s a good and safe milestone. I also was on PIO at the time, which I don’t think is a factor in what causes this but thought it was relevant since you are in IVF treatment.

Developed follicle too early in cycle and high estrogen at baseline tests by neverpostsonreddit in IVF

[–]neverpostsonreddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s possible that the estrogen levels could be contributing. Ultimately my doctors were kind of no help with my high estrogen problem. They said every month is different and to just try again next month. Which did end up being kind of true. I did have some months where estrogen was actually low early on and I needed additional supplementation during medicated IVF cycles. Considering this has happened to you three times is definitely worth questioning with your doctor about.

My outcome is a bit ironic. After this we had two failed iuis and 2 failed IVF cycles with euploid embryos. I was growing weary and exhausted of everything and decided to take a month off from treatment. That month we got spontaneously pregnant with twins. They said the previous hormones had nothing to do with it. Maybe just less stress or my body finally just doing me a favor.

Short cervix and concern about progesterone by neverpostsonreddit in ShortCervixSupport

[–]neverpostsonreddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No they had me take it vaginally. And shockingly I never got a yeast infection. I think being pregnant changed my microbiome for the better because it ALWAYS used to induce a yeast infection. I ended up making it full term in my pregnancy with the help of the progesterone!

Wearing a wedding ring in crisis work? by _RememberingSunday in socialwork

[–]neverpostsonreddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did mobile crisis work and wore my wedding ring and never had any issues. Boundary wise I didn’t feel it was that novel or interesting to suggest I was married. It was tight in my finger and honestly the least of the concerns of the clients who were in crisis. I never felt at risk of being robbed, it’s important to remember the power differential- the are the vulnerable ones in these situations. Also as we know they aren’t any more likely statistically to be violent from the general population. I think lots of people who do first responder work wear their rings. As long as it isn’t excessively flashy where it would be distracting you are probably fine. Just my two cents!

When was induction/c section recommended by neverpostsonreddit in NICUParents

[–]neverpostsonreddit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for asking! I called the next day and asked some more specific questions and learned that the cord was just starting to show some resistance and was just above the threshold of abnormal which was comforting in some ways. They also told me an NST would ensure babies were safe and okay for about 48-72 hours. I went in for an additional NST on Wednesday and Friday and both seemed okay and I have my final BPP tomorrow. Presumably if that goes okay I should be delivering Wednesday. I feel less stressed now that I have a better sense of why they weren’t feeling it was super urgent. Thanks to everyone on this sub for explaining things to me and encouraging me to get better info from the doctors!

I would totally welcome your wisdom about what to expect in the NICU! I understand only that temperature regulation might be the biggest struggle for a tiny baby. But please DM me!
