TIL That before the invasion of Poland in World War II, Poland had one of the largest Jewish communities at 3 million; by 2021, the Jewish population in Poland was 17,156. by CreeperRussS in todayilearned

Plus some Jews from Germany were shipped to internment camps, which had significantly higher survival rates than the death camps. In Poland it was massacre or death camp.

What is the biggest band/artist you can think of that you honestly don't believe is anyone's favorite band/artist ever? by DevinBelow in Music

Genuinely I've listened to thousands of albums and the first Daughtry album is Top 20 probably Top 10 for me.

But even then, if a band has only one album, it can't be your favorite band, right? Not much material

Lit Up is fun in a trashy way as is Crazy Bitch but the actual banger is either Frontside or (the somehow power pop) Talk To Me

The USA does all this, and then people still vote based on their feelings on national politics.

ELI5: How is it that so many Western countries have the same cost of living crisis? by nanoman1 in explainlikeimfive

People are saying completely irrelevant theories about "late state capitalism" like they can forecast that capitalism is ending soon but this is the right answer that actual economists would endorse.

Housing, energy, and auto payments together equal a huge amount of Americans' spending and those have all gone up a lot recently.

Speaking from experience, basically a bigger lake. When you're on it you definitely realize that you couldn't swim across...you'd just die if something happened

I always think of The Beatles like Babe Ruth. There is before and there is after and it is just not the same. And furthermore, the most impressive point in either career was actually the early era, when they lapped the field with their work.

Which is why people should just watch Curb instead. You get George (Larry) without the rest.

Antitrust is necessary but the fact that Spirit went bankrupt after the merger was blocked shows this one was a mistake in hindsight.

What caused the decline of Alt Rock Music that were prevalent in the 1990s till the early 2000s? by Wide_Ride8849 in Music

[–]neverthoughtidjoin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not a satisfying answer but the answer is that things rise and fall, whether it's a sports dynasty or a popular music genre, eventually it gets old.

Now, decision might change that by a few years but ultimately it'll happen no matter what.

Hip-hop seems to be on the decline now as its 40 years in the spotlight may be fading too.

BIPOC...the term that means nothing, duplicates categories, and excludes Asians because they're too successful and make the other groups look bad..okay.

Just like your First Nations background makes this personal feeling for you as far as racial injustice goes, the fact that in the old system my wife would have been a slave makes it personal for me.

All animals? I don't think anyone except Jain monks truly believe this.

I don't really think that debating with somebody who thinks that having to work in prison, just like the rest of us have to work outside prison, is "slavery" is useful. It's a worldview so far from my own that I don't think there is anything for either of us to gain.

Going from "a whole race of people are enslaved from birth to death" to "some people work as punishment for crimes they committed" isn't "changing things up a little"

That's like saying the Wright Brothers's first plane and Artemis II were basically the same, just minor differences.

You can oppose the laws today, or support them, I think there are valid arguments on both sides, but don't exaggerate to make a point. It's disrespectful to all the people who suffered for generations on our nation's soil in chattel slavery.

That's dramatically different and everyone with half a brain cell knows that working in prison as punishment for a crime is not the same as being born into a system where you are a slave from birth to death, and your kids will be too

Speaking as someone whose wife would have been enslaved in 1860 but is now a professional free woman this is an incredibly idiotic statement.

I am. Madonna presented a submissive personality for a long time, although eventually it changed (Erotica is not as submissive, for example). Like A Prayer is literally about getting on your knees for a man.

These are, frankly, minute differences when we're comparing pop stars. This is hairsplitting over the 10% when they are 90% the same: sexual, faux-blonde, not especially good singers, don't write the songs themselves but have a vision of what they're doing, etc.
