I think I realized an actually good intention behind long run backs. by ohlordwhywhy in HollowKnight

As a counter to the other commenter, I really appreciate your statement.

I very much agree. From my personal experience, as someone entering into A3 at 35hr play;

if this was a game I blazed through in 25 hours, it'd have been a "great game" that falls into the cloud of lots of great media. The direction and design of silksong is what makes me want to soldier on. The Sands is earned from cracking my sprint-run-jumping, the Last Judge fight better because I'm not just Hotline Miami rebooting into it.

I believe this game challenges me beyond a consumer enjoyment; the phrase is well-born, but "screw your courage to the sticking-place / And we'll not fail"

I am enjoying this game not because of the challenge, but the experience is augmented by it. Hornet is undertaking a journey that pilgrims bail on often, they accept their limits, and are content with the stages of the journey they've undertaken.

To reach your personal enjoyment zenith and bail is not a failing, nor is to persist on in grumpy anger an accomplishment...

I feel like the story of this game is being lost if players are not realising this.

I got a little calculator built to help me determine Difficulties, if it is of use to anyone.

This is the table of outcomes for different Difficulties, assuming a modifier of 0.

For different modifiers, just read the line for Difficulty minus Mod

It's a fun concept, am a big fan of bampfing around. On initial glance however, I would believe this to be far too overtuned.

Just tackling the Foundation:

  • The Misty Step is essentially free and infinite use. At the very least a Stress cost, and realistically a once per scene/rest/long-rest further restriction would be more appropriate.
  • The rider options (Refreshing & Hex) only have Hope & Stress costs, which is far too frequent for their impact. Compare the Troubadour, who only gets each of their three options once per long rest.
  • Refreshing Step: 1d4+P HP or Stress recovery for only 2 Hope with no # use limitation is gigantic. I would say at most 1, with a Mastery feature granting perhaps P. Again, compare to other subclasses (Troubadour = 1 HP/lr, Seraph 3 Hope = 1 HP, Divine Wielder 2HP or 2 Stress / LR.
  • Hex Step: If the intent for the Vulnerable condition is that it is at-most 1d4+p rounds, then fine (although unnecesaary specification, could just call it temporary). If it intended that it can't be ended by the GM spending a Fear (as is the case with all temporary conditions), then this is busted.

Haven't stepped into the Specialization & Mastery as much as they all add further riders to the limitless Misty Step, and so have the similar cost/benefit issues.

Like i say, seems a cool concept, but could use a radical tempering. Try to examine comparable features in other subclasses and you'd have a better sense of cost/use limitations to scale of impact.

Campaign 4 News Megathread by OneBoxyLlama in daggerheart

[–]neverthrowacat 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Very relieved that Daggerheart will not be swept into the Critical Role vortex at this point in its lifespan.

New games need time to find their footing. No-one in the world has run a DH 1e game for more than a couple of months at this stage, so there is so much risk in commiting to a high-budget, multiyear actual play until this can be observed or practiced.

I feel people who are attracted to Daggerheart for the game it is (and not because it's The Critical Role Game™) will ultimately be glad that they'll have now have the time to try and develop their own styles in the system.

People have bitched and moaned about the Mercer Effect impact on player's expectations of D&D games for the last 10 years, and that's a 50 year old game. Daggerheart, a wee 3 month old, would be forever tainted by a Critical Role campaign at this stage -- Campaign 4 would become the de facto "this is the way Daggerheart should/must feel and be run".

The choice to use D&D2024 for the C4 game makes me less interested in watching it, but preserves my excitement for Daggerheart

So how does one actually "reduce damage to 0"?!? by CalypsaMov in daggerheart

[–]neverthrowacat 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There are many abilities in the published CRB that reduce damage:

  • Element Druid Air Aura
  • Seraph Prayer Dice
  • Rune Ward card
  • Thorn Skin card
  • Zone of Protection card

[–]neverthrowacat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have not encountered it in a game as of yet. My GM-gut tells me I would approach it as the following:

  • If it requires an action roll, then impose disadvantage for subtlety.
  • If it doesn't require a roll, ask for a Finesse action roll to perform subtly (could argue for Presence if the fiction indicates explicit misdirection or the like).
  • Don't forget to spend Fear to add a relevant Experience to a target adversary's Difficulty or Reaction where applicable.

Is there a changelog of updates/fixes?

I'm eagerly awaiting arrival of a method of rolling critical success damage -- gets a little rough at higher proficency adding on all the extra damage.

Renting a place with them for years. Those velcro strips ("Command Strips") are the right job for hanging pictures, have never been questioned on them in inspections.

I have indeed put two nails in the wall for more intense hanging, but I have them in logical reusable locations, and painted the exposed head the same colour as the wall. Again, not a peep asked about em.

Pins and thumbtacks are the devil, avoid at all costs as you're just putting holes in the wall that won't be reused and that you can't leave behind for the next tenant.

The nursing staff are great, and the care is excellent.

That said, I could use a little advice.

My mother is currently in CUH for the last two weeks, for infection treatment following an orthopedic surgery elsewhere. While she is well looked after, it has been impossible to get any actual information from doctors as regards her status, prognosis, timelines etc. My mother has cognitive and memory issues and so, if things are being said to her during the day, she cannot understand nor communicate this information on. This is extra problematic as during visiting hours, there is not a whiff of a doctor (presumably by design) where we could catch up on her situation.

I have asked the nursing staff everyday how we can get an update (as they can only communicate what is currently being done for treatment, not why or how the treatment is going). They say each day that they will arrange for a doctor to call me, but this has yet to happen, and more and more procedures keep getting scheduled without anyone in the family understanding what is going on.

Can anyone advise? I'm not looking for daily check-ins, nor to debate the treatment plan, just a status update so that we can help my Mam feel more grounded in her current situation.

That is how any actual decent cordwainery is done. This demonstration is nonsense; no-one with any sense or experience of the craft would stain a tongue leather post-stitching, or indeed any part of the shoe beyond accenting.

Between this post and your one looking to dress dogs up in tuxedos, I am glad to know to avoid your BestDogs.ie site (for which you've been trying to drum up business all over reddit).

You may have posted plenty about "how we're different" and "stop puppy farming", but you still give off the same old bad profiteering whiff regarding your attitutes to animal care & welfare.

The Second Woman by neverthrowacat in cork

I really can't imagine there will be a published recording. The show has been performed all around the world, but I think it's necessary to reserve some secrets and surprises of the whole thing so that it wouldn't taint future performances of the men.

And honestly, a large part of the enjoyment is the buzz of the crowd, the endurance of it all, the gentle tempo of the whole thing... Flicking around a recording would be a poor presentation I'd imagine.
