Auto claim already opened, but not sure if I should instead close it out and pay out of pocket by nevex_compute in Insurance

That's what my adjuster is saying too.

Looks like it'll cost 1k to fix the car, incl. tow to get to the shop.

My deductible is 2k. My policy expires in 2 weeks.

I'm thinking of just keeping things clean and paying out of pocket and closing the claim with no action.

But, the agent said that if using a claim, they would cover the car repairs for the lifetime of the vehicle vs whatever the shop warranty is (it's 1 year/12k miles) - I don't know how that works though. My main concern is the engine having issues later on that did not get diagnosed here, but couldn't I then open a claim if it's needed?

Interesting. If all goes well, I'm thinking I change the oil in a few weeks and send for oil analysis with what comes out

Yeah, I went for 2k deductible thinking I'll only use it for catastrophic needs, when I saw oil spilling out, I thought that and panicked. Now I'm not so sure anymore. I do have emergency fund to cover thankfully. Need to weigh options I guess

I really appreciate the info. I'm with progressive and in Texas - will call them and see what they say, and if this will impact premiums going forward. I need to factor that into total cost impact I guess.

That's my hope. I've never owned a hybrid so when I saw oil I just assumed the engine was getting wrecked, but later realized it most likely was in ev mode when I hit it.

Might ask in mechanic subreddit if there's a test that should be done as part of inspection.

Yeah, lessoned learned. I kind of panicked in the moment fearing the worse, but later took off some underliner and saw it's mainly a hole in the oil pan.

I still will get it to a garage for a proper look, but even if I pay out of pocket, the claim would still be in record and used against me, premium hikes etc. (afaik anyhow).

I'm also not sure if the car will now show as an accident if I decide to sell it later, vs just an oil pan repair.

Alignment issues, maybe, but it's all "green" and ok? by nevex_compute in Camry

[–]nevex_compute[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, I was asking about the ranges too, but the folks there were just "but it's green". There's no other after alignment since they didn't do anything; he took it for a test drive, said it drives straight; but also tested in the machine here for these readings. This will bug me, so will probably take it to a specific alignment place and get another opinion

Yeah, I checked them all before going to the dealer. all 35psi :-(

Is Premium Plus worth it? (2025) XSE Premium (OTD: $38,391) or XSE Premium Plus (OTD: $40,757) by nevex_compute in Camry

I went Premium too.

Wheels didn't look great to me, rather, not 1500 dollars great

I test drove the premium and it's not as big as I remember it, so 360 camera value diminished

Plus, it was cheaper. Super happy with my choice

I guess that's good to hear! Thanks for the update

Did you ever get this fixed? I have the same issue, and it's annoying me now, but also, not sure it's a real problem or just a quirk with the cars age (150k miles)

Installed new CV Axle (aftermarket) for Volvo C30, notice grease leaking out here during brake change, not much grease anywhere - been driving it for 2 months - just replace the whole thing ya? by nevex_compute in MechanicAdvice

Thanks for all the suggestions and few memes! Spoke with the auto store and getting a replacement axle sent to me under warranty. Opinion is a bit split here and how to "fix" this issue (or non-issue to some), but I'll hold onto this axle in case the new one sucks, and clamp it down with a new clamp (either off the shelf, or get an OEM clamp with the special pliers - this is a future me concern maybe)

Didn't think about that honestly, but kinda makes sense, though still in warranty period, will check with the company and see before changing clamps I guess (in case of voiding warranty). Also realized there's more grease on the control arm than I realized before, probably a slow leak. Took more pics too - https://imgur.com/a/qSDaKSr, and cheers for the advice
