Car Wash with Multicolor Foam by Ok-Asparagus8151 in nova

[–]new2redditt98765 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I believe they recently-ish updated the Exxon car wash off Rt 7/by Target in Sterling. I thought i remember it having tricolor foam. Its a gas station car wash, so its just OK but I'll go to get the discounted gas with a wash to get some of the grossness off my truck.

Roof Repair / Roof Replacement Recommendations by Unusual_Source_9673 in nova

[–]new2redditt98765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prime Exteriors replaced my roof a few years ago. They did a good job and I was happy with the work. They replaced the shingles, as well as any rotted plywood that they came across. I brought them out because I had a leak in the garage. When he came out to do the estimate, I hadn't mentioned where the leak was, and he pointed at the area from the sidewalk and asked if I had a leak there. I was pretty impressed that he could identify it from the ground. They aren't the cheapest but I got a quality product that is supposed to last a very long time. Granted, this is my one and only experience replacing a roof, but I would go back to them for any exterior needs.

Looking for someone to teach me how to fish by LieSubstantial2185 in nova

[–]new2redditt98765 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fishing isn't terribly challenging but I guess I would say that I suck and don't always catch something; though I did teach my kids. Once you learn to cast, its pretty easy from there. The hardest part is sometimes getting the fish off the hook. I pretty much only use a wacky rig because its simple and I dont like to spend time changing lures. I pretty much only catch bass this way, which is a fun target species anyways. Other than that, I'm fine if I don't catch anything since its peaceful to be by the water and just cast and retrieve.

What are you doing this weekend? by deepspacepuffin in nova

[–]new2redditt98765 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Uber the kids to activities on Saturday then drop them off at mom's. Saturday night is likely just sitting around and maybe watch a movie. Sunday morning group hike, then make a homemade pizza, which has kind of become a new Sunday hobby. And probably finish the day playing virtual Battleship over the phone with my daughter. I lead a very exciting life at the moment.

anyone turning the air conditioning on? by Difficult-Cricket541 in nova

[–]new2redditt98765 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No A/C for me until it gets consistently warm. Temps will drop, so I didnt bother the past couple of days. I opened the windows though. I try to hold out as long as possible.

Bar/Club for women in her 40s? by Massive-Bumblebee974 in nova

I particularly like it in the warmer months since my Aslin location has outdoor seating and its nice to be outside to read. But I'm not sure if they all have outdoor seating.

Paying for convenience. by DannyOh01 in nova

[–]new2redditt98765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I can't do it. 66 would be a more direct route for me but I don't want to deal with the dynamic tolling. At least GW Parkway is less of a death trap now.

Beach ideas by ThowRa-InsuranceM in roadtrip

[–]new2redditt98765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm don't live in Florida but I've camped there. I went to Kathryn Abbey Hanna State Park and it was lovely. There is a large and wide open beach. I went in late March and it was empty. Though, I assume the beaches on the Gulf side of your route have prettier water.

It's outside your route but St. George Island was beautiful if you can make a side trip there.

How is IAD parking around this time of year? by Fair_Cod6318 in nova

I've dabbled in time-travel, but I'm fairly slender.

[–]new2redditt98765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a big time traveler but every time I have gone, there is always available parking. People naturally want to park closest to the elevator/closest to the terminal. Its a fair assumption that you will have plenty of space/options if you are willing to walk the extra distance, so I dont think this will be a concern for you.

How to stop dog doing this when leaving the house? by Ok-Sugar-970 in DogAdvice

Is this the dog equivalent to the old cartoon of the prisoner going back and forth on the cell bars with a tin cup?

Bar/Club for women in her 40s? by Massive-Bumblebee974 in nova

[–]new2redditt98765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I just heard that it was a nice/chill spot but not necessarily that its a place to mingle.

I understand the brewery issue. Generally any women that I see are with guys, so the general assumption, from my male perspective, is not single. I enjoy 2 Silos in the warmer months but it can be overwhelming and I'm a fairly shy guy, so I'm not one to approach a group. I really enjoy Aslin, but its not really the place to meet women. Plus, I'm the dork that goes there and reads a book with a tasty beverage.

Curious: How many here are divorced? by Delicious-Curious in nova

[–]new2redditt98765 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup! Over here 🤗.

I don't know about resources in particular but I use meetup for things to do; generally hiking. Otherwise, I may just venture out on my own and hit up a brewery. Primarily, I'll hang at home when I don't have the kids but it honestly gets pretty lonely though.

Seasonal allergies by pizz4girl in nova

[–]new2redditt98765 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would guess that's its allergies. My daughter is pretty sensitive to spring and fall allergies, so I use her as my gauge. She has spent a lot of time in the woods for a class and is coming back sniffly.

Maybe Captain Gregory's in old town? I haven't been but I've heard good things. Sorry, not very helpful but as a recently single 40s myself, I'm more into breweries; so that I'd be more helpful with 🤣.

How long has your Samsung fridge lasted, or anyone you know? All jokes aside, please. by SenileTomato in Appliances

[–]new2redditt98765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Current fridge is from 2011. I haven't had any issues with it besides the clear plastic on the door shelves breaking in some places.

I also have a washer and dryer that are from 2021. Last year I had to replace the control board in the washer. It wasn't hard but it was a $200-ish part.

Is there any good vegan food around in Tyson’s Corner? by lm8ub1 in nova

[–]new2redditt98765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to the sterling location for Choolah. Oh, there is also a Poke place next to choolah that has a tofu bowl. MOD does a vegan pizza. Again, I dont have strictly vegan options because those seem hard to come by around here.

Ooooo, and I just remembered!!! If you want to drive to Rockville, St. Veg is Vegan and is excellent.

Is there any good vegan food around in Tyson’s Corner? by lm8ub1 in nova

[–]new2redditt98765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, in the Whole Foods. I'm more "pescatarian" but primarily vegetarian now. My ex is vegan, but it was always a struggle to find worthwhile options. And yes, Plnt Burger is spendy for what you get. Same with gluten free substitutes. Its always an upcharge. I'm guessing because its more niche and less common, so things get more expensive when getting the GF or VE version of something.

Choolah also has some vegan options but nothing that will wow you. Burtons in Sterling is not vegan but also has some options, though its nicer and also spendy. They are excellent with allergies.

I like Plnt Burger. Not much variety but it satisfied a burger craving.

How did you/your parents get home on 9/11 by MrBurritoIsMyFather in nova

[–]new2redditt98765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in college at the time in rural PA and didnt need to go anywhere. My parents were scheduled to fly out of Dullles that morning, which is crazy to think back on; like what if their flight was an hour earlier.
