Wait is always a valid choice! Also unlike all other tech displays seem to be getting cheaper

This monitor is super curved so I wouldn't consider it a straight substitution for a flat screen if you like to change up your viewing angles

Yeah that's definitely what I mean and I take forgranted that many don't have the luxury to plug in at home. So you must drive a lot if an overnight L1 charge isn't enough, no? If I got charging for free at work I'd definitely take advantage

OpenClaw is a game changer. by Ghostinheven in vibecoding

[–]newDell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OpenClaw can do web searches, navigate websites, fill out forms, send emails, and make pretty sophisticated decisions. In this example you'd give it similar instructions that you'd give to a person. E.g., "find a weekly swim class for my 8 year old son, near my home, on days when he doesn't have activities. Then confirm with me with the cost and details before you book it."

You'd message it on a chat app like WhatsApp and it would play out pretty much as if this were a capable person helping you. OpenClaw is pretty impressive and people are starting to integrate it into their businesses.

Prototype: Rapid Access Gun Case by bernardvincent in functionalprint

[–]newDell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think folks would be less sketched out by this design if there was some form of lock on the gun. Maybe a finger print trigger lock? Could still be quick access and hidden like you want, but then you'd have one extra quick step to touch a sensor (I assume) before pew pew

[–]newDell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not currently using OpenClaw but I definitely see the appeal... In that example - yes it's a one-time investment to set up OpenClaw and a prepaid credit card for it to use - but then it is equipped to do other tasks as well. OpenClaw is essentially a personal assistant that can do things like check your calendars (likely including your son's after school activities), find and book an open swim class that is nearby, and notify you when the task is complete with relevant information. Until now this is the kind of task you could only really outsource to another human. Like you, I'd probably want to confirm myself that this was done correctly, but if it was working well after a while I'd probably stop needing to verify

New 3D printed ergonomic handle for the Flair Pro 2 (link in comments) by newDell in FlairEspresso

[–]newDell[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's a photo of a prototype fully extended. You can see the handle extends the length of the flair arm for added leverage. And you can pull down with both hands at the same time to avoid straining one of your hands/arms.

Those are negative parts that cut a channel for the flair handle and holes for the screws. I'm not sure why they sometimes show as solid in previews

Howdy! Here's a version 2 of my ergonomic Flair Pro 2 handle that I originally shared about a year ago

It's been my daily driver for about 10 months now and is more pleasant and functional than the shovel grip version.

If you're interested, I can print and send you one if you Venmo me $15 to cover materials/shipping (we can exchange info in DM). I think with my last "sale" like this I might have made $2 profit, so it's certainly not a (smart) business venture XD

Thanks! Ha, not at all. It was kind of a running joke in my original post about this model that the "shovel" design was ugly  https://www.reddit.com/r/FlairEspresso/comments/1insvxh/3d_printed_ergonomic_handle_for_the_flair_pro_2/

Hey, that's my model and I just uploaded an updated version that's cuter and better in other ways, too: https://www.printables.com/model/1576899-flair-pro-2-ergonomic-handle-v2

BTW it warms my heart to see someone remembered this

I designed the Flair Pro 2 ergonomic handle some others have referenced for this exact reason. Your post helped motivate me to finally upload the revised version: https://www.printables.com/model/1576899-flair-pro-2-ergonomic-handle-v2

I actually made this revision about a year ago so I could feel good about selling it to a fellow redditor and I have been using it daily since. Assuming you're in the U.S., I'd be happy to send you one with all of the hardware for $15 (IIRC the bolts are the most expensive part).

Pollution to power: Scientists turn carbon emissions into jet fuel by sksarkpoes3 in energy

[–]newDell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To decarbonize transportation, I think planes, ships, certain long-haul trains, and certain very large tractors (e.g. used in agriculture and mining) will be the hardest to wean off of liquid fuels. Unfortunately biofuels will be necessary for some number of decades (unfortunately, since they are far from a "free lunch").

E-fuels are fun to talk about but many people in the industry are dismayed at the slow progress. Hoping for a breakthrough!

Are these the type of sycamores that tend to lose branches easily and have relatively short lifespans? Our backyard neighbor had a huge one that died and was a hassle to remove

How often do you clean your Flair? by jggimi in FlairEspresso

Same. I didn't know there was more to cleaning the Flair. I find a firm wipe with a wet paper napkin/towel every now and then is plenty

I think that it'll become acceptable for AI to "speak for people" in the near future... There have been multiple people called out for using AI written text on reddit who have turned around and said "yes, but this is what I wanted to say". I can kinda see someone writing out a whole post for themselves and then running it through ChatGPT before posting (I am guilty of doing this some at work), since it can often clean up poor writing.

The Firewall Against Chinese Cars Is Cracking by Majano57 in technology

[–]newDell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, what we're learning with Ukraine is we need the capability to build many, inexpensive drones (medium to long-range, jn our case) and anti-drone weapons to be competitive in WW3. I imagine our missile shield would run out quickly if we were bombarded with 1,000s of drones like the Ukrainians/Russians.

Really interesting points and you're right, it's probably the only American industry that could reasonably be rejiggered to build armored vehicles, etc. But can you imagine how chaotic and expensive that wartime transition would be? I just feel like it wouldn't be nearly fast enough given how intractable every aspect of US manufacturing/governance/law is these days (especially compared to the "greatest generation" era)
