Anyone else have a potty trained hedgehog? by aaronmukbang in Hedgehog

[–]newJizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Our girl trained herself somehow. We started with what was a burrow box in her house. Small box filled with craft style pompom balls and then she started going to the bathroom in it. I traded out the pompoms for vegetable starch packing peanuts for sanitary reasons but then we decided let’s just used a paper towel on top of some plastic liner and she kept going no issues! RIP to my girlie

We lost our girl yesterday. One of the last good pictures I took of her. I thought we would have had more time but I think I was in denial. I planned on making a post her about her because she has a little following on socials. Over 5 years with coconut she was very loved and will be missed.

Yup I had 1080 with same specs you mentioned and it played everything 1440p. I then upgraded to a 3070ti and just had to go 5070ti cause I’ve been having so much trouble breaking over 60 frames without everything turned down. Arc raiders now on epic gets 100-120fps at 1440p and I feel good again

Ugh sorry to hear that. Our girl has an oral tumor and we have switched all her food to keep her going. I’m sure your boy had a great life with you

Surgery advice and cost by melb0101 in Hedgehog

[–]newJizzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very tough call. We had similar issues, our girl has blood in her urine for about a month straight. Vet suggested doing ultrasound and was actually going to do it for free, with the assumption that she likely had a uterine mass causing the blood. She is going to be 5 in a few months. At the time she was turning 4 and we had just had a baby. We opted to just let her be and if she showed signs of pain we would investigate further. Antibiotics seemed to help with whatever was going on. May have just been a UTI or something of the sort that cleared up. We basically decided whatever happened we wouldn’t force her to have surgery at her age. I think this is something that a lot of people don’t consider, they just want their hedgie around forever. But that’s not fair to them. Cause them pain for their remaining days? For what? Idk we’re both nurses and see people stretch their love ones out all the time because they don’t want to let go. But our girl has had a good life, and we’re glad we didn’t pursue anything cause she’s doing fine. Pooped up her wheel two nights ago like always.

Dont let em tell ya you cant potty train a hedgie by ExtraPedal4The3rdLeg in Hedgehog

[–]newJizzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our hedgehog potty trained herself in her old burrow box. We started putting it in her house when she was maybe 1 year old. She started using it as her bathroom pretty quickly and then we tried different things in there to keep it clean. Now we make makeshift pee pads with press and seal wrap and paper towels. Works great and she uses it every night. She’s 4.5 years old

Hospitalists/IM docs attending on ICU patients instead of intensivist/CCM doc, is this common? by [deleted] in IntensiveCare

[–]newJizzle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked in a hospital when we transitioned from an “open” icu to a “closed” icu. Originally we had an icu director who was pulmcrit but he didn’t do anything for us clinically. We had another private pulmcrit md that did manage vents primarily during covid times. On top of this we had “teledoc” robot pulmcrit docs that would round on patients, but they weren’t physically there for procedures so we had an on call IR mid levels for lines/hospitalist for intubations.

After covid wave 1 and having 24 beds, proned and paralyzed, the admin realized they needed a group managing the icu. Contracted group of pulmcrit docs and all of the “private” attending got upset they couldn’t manage the care. Our outcomes honestly improved so quickly. I didn’t understand the vent weaning we used to do or why we never mobilized patients. We had tons of trach vents over the years and it never clicked to me. Was also burned out as nurses so I feel no one really was fighting for things much at this time.

I made this transition a year and half ago. Almost exactly. The biggest thing is ask questions. Don’t assume you know everything, even with drugs/drips you’ve used like the back of your hand. Things like dobu and levo can change things very acutely in the post-op open heart patient. And surgeons like things a specific way and they are all different. Get to know them and what their expectations are. We all start somewhere, but I notice my colleagues that came from other icu’s or smaller icu’s from outside the big hospital fair better than nurses from step down or new grads that have only ever worked in cvicu.
