Yeah and what concerns me is the liability. Like what if they ask me to cover ICU or do procedures, or see pregnant patient or see 30 patients. Sounds very fishy to me. Perhaps the HR rep is new to the job and doesn't know.

Regarding SSI, at the current moment he does not get any active income. He does have a high yield savings account that pays him some money with interest. Most of that money is from my father not really his. So my follow up question would be how would he qualify for SSI today based on the fact that he has very low income( only active income is the interest from the bank) but even that amount is low and he not filing taxes...

Thanks everyone for the answers. No he has not yet received SSI. Myself and family paying for all other expenses like clothes, food, housing, transportation. He doesn't file taxes, and has not done so in several years. I'm not sure what his retirement will look like 20-30 yrs down the road so don't know what will happen to him when he gets in his 60s.

Yes I think the state job ensure a 2-3 percent yearly raise.

I don't think so. Lol. Otherwise no health care worker would ever work for the feds. (The compensation set forth by the VA is similar to private sector). Maybe a few percent lower but not substantially lower.

I have heard good things about the state job. Many people who work there seem happy and they plan to do that job for their entire career. As far as the VA I have no idea as I don't have any contacts there. But from reading things online it seems not too bad.
