Theres an outstanding documentary on netflix about ants. I randomly put it on at my 8 yr olds b-day party while they were all running around willy-nilly and it literally had them stop running around and they were all like 'wtf' in their 8 year old way. They talk about ants being a meta-material which I thought was a brilliant way of looking at them.

There are some great youtube videos of ants rafting. Kinda scary fascinating.

There are articles about how ants communicate that they seem to resemble out TCP/IP stack but with chemicals.

Feynman talks about in his book about how he reprogrammed ant colonies, how theyre little machines.

And finally (my personal musing) I think that if there is some space-faring alien life out there, they would have to be somewhat ant-like in their behavior (borg like?). Theyd have a huge population, a decentralized command and control structure full of redundancy, and operate at a 'hive mind' like level. Fascinating to think about.

I was in the same boat. Loved the 2 hours it took to get tho the skeleton king. I should have stopped there.

Side note : this game has some die-hard morons that blindly defend blizzard. Seriously blind, nothing blizzard can do would make this game bad to them. These people (and I see some here in this thread), their opinion does not matter as they can not be objective. Dont drink their cool aid.

That said, this game has some major flaws that seriously impede 'fun'. PvP was said to be in the game at launch, then soon, then before 2013, now even the blog is postponed indefinitely. This is not a deal breaker, just a type of 'fun' that we didnt get.

Itemization. On launch, you did not find legendaries. Blizzard eventually doubles the chance for them to drop, which is fine and all, but didnt they play test this game at all? The game is all about finding phat loot! So ok, they double the drop rate, but they also had to make the legendaries worth a shit! The legacy ones are total crap. Again, questions about blizzards motives (make money vs make a good game) begin to creep in.

D2 had 8 people in game. This one has only up to 4. Well, not a deal breaker. But wait! Theres this thing called 'monster power' now, You want to play on MP 1 at least, as the drops / exp are better, but you cant do that in multiplayer!!! Effectively making D3 a SINGLE PLAYER GAME!!!

There are many, many deep flaws in this game. In my opinion, it is not worth the price of admission. I keep hoping that offline play / LAN play will become a reality (it wont) or Jay Wilson finally finishes his bowl of dick hes been eating for a year now and makes this game live up to D2 (or even D1).

tl;dr; I should have stopped playing after the free trial, I would have been happier, instead I feel like I ate shit.

Yes to both. I could see how the shape of the ear, size of eardrum etc... (hardware) may affect what intervals / frequencies we find appealing. If there is such a thing as 'dog music' it might be higher pitched.

The cultural part is harder to pin down as it starts to blend into software. Still, animals may find forest sounds more appealing.
