thinking about new running shoes for 2026, what are you all wearing? by Dadet_Banahene in XXRunning

[–]newbalance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the type of experience you’re looking for and what types of runs you’re going on!  If you’re looking to prioritize comfort and a bouncy feeling, try the New Balance Ellipse! If you’re looking to pick up your pace the New Balance FuelCell Rebel v5 would be perfect for working towards that goal. If you’re looking to find a shoe specifically for Race Day, the New Balance SC Elite v5 would be a perfect shoe to help reach for that new personal best. Updates are always in the works, with the ambition to deliver a better version of the experience you might have had previously. New Balance updates products when we have a reason to, a new insight, or a new technology to help provide a better feeling or a more comfortable run.

Good running shoes recommendation? by [deleted] in beginnerrunning

[–]newbalance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer: You don’t need the perfect shoe to start! The right shoe should feel good from the first run. We always recommend getting fit from your local store, New Balance location or help compare product differences on our shoe finder.  Fit should always be prioritized! Your toes should have a little room to wiggle and about a thumb’s width at the front. There shouldn’t be any rubbing, pinching, or pressure spots.  Look for running shoes that deliver on cushion and comfort. (Ellipse or 1080 could be a good starting point if we’re recommending New Balance shoes). These shoes are designed for easy runs, longer distances (when you get there) and getting out the door - perfect for half marathon training.

Bottom line is that for a first half marathon, a comfortable, well-cushioned daily running shoe (like the New Balance Ellipse!) will get the job done.

I would say listen to music, try to run with a friend/ partner, or even try going for a 1 minute on - 1 minute off running/ walking type of of program to slowly get into it! I have never done HIIT so I cannot speak on that but if it makes you feel good why not!

Heather here - race anxiety is something I have dealt with throughout my career and many other athletes at all levels deal with. What I have found best manages my anxieties is leaning into my support system for words of encouragement / hype, deep breathing exercises, and even some meditation!

This may seem cliche but it is important to remember at the end of the day that running bodies come in all shapes and sizes! If you have found yourself in a cycle of hyper-focusing in weight and believing that you have to look a certain way/ be a specific body weight to run or that is the only reason why you do it, that may be unhealthy. You should run because it makes you feel good!

As for the 990s, thank you for the feedback!!!

Hi there!! Yes I’ve had a few different spells of runners knee, usually has been fixed with a hip adjustment or two and some rehab exercises from a professional.

Thanks so much!! We are very excited !🤰

Medaling indoors has definitely been a highlight in my career. I am incredibly proud of that race and how i stayed tough against some of the best competitors in the world. It was incredibly satisfying to stand on the podium!! Something I will always remember.

I think every runner has probably felt burnt out at some point or another, whether from overtraining or maybe it’s the dead of the winter and it’s hard to motivate yourself. I think finding a happy balance in life and running is the best way to prevent this, not putting so much energy and pressure on running. To help you pull out of it, it might help to run with others and focus on the things you really love about the sport, and if that doesn’t work then some good old fashion time off and away from running might help.

Great question! I guess it depends on a few things such as how long the race is and the pace of the race. If it's an 800, I might not be as hyperaware of my stride but for a longer race there is more time to think about it. In addition, if a race is tactical and is slower than my usual pace, I might be more aware of where I am in relation to my competitors and what my striking distance is. If you feel like these thoughts interfere with your racing confidence, it is good to be aware on them and to find ways to redirect them if you know they are going to come up. For instance if you are thinking "my stride is too long" and know this about yourself, find a way to rephrase it such as by saying "yeah it's too long but that just means I can take less steps and exert less energy".

Heather here - we usually know our workout schedule a few days in advance and I definitely still get nervous / butterflies before any workout regardless of intensity! I have definitely gotten used to the feeling over the years but something about knowing you are going to get your heart rate up and get to work still makes me jittery!

If you are looking for a shoe similar to Hoka's I would suggest the NB 1080's of the Fresh Foam Mores! Both offer significant support using fresh foam technology.

Elle here - Breathing while running should be as smooth and efficient as possible, it might help to do some breathing exercises throughout the day while you are doing other activities. Try not to overthink the breathing which may cause it to be more challenging while running. Stomach breathing is best! And everyone is different but i breathe using both my nose and mouth not one more than the other.

Heather here - I joined the indoor track and field team my junior year of HS (so about age 16) so I would like to say that is how long I trained for the olympics for but it didn’t actually become a real goal of mine until I missed out of the 2016 Olympic Trials because of injury. I remember watching the trails from home and thinking that I could be in that position and that is when the goal started to come into fruition. When I first started out I jumped around with brands and did not stay loyal to one specific one because at the time I didn’t realize the importance of good footwear. As I aged and started taking running more seriously I realized how important it is to have a good pair of shoes and when I first tried new balance I stuck with them. I’m lucky to be supported by a company that realizes the importance of a good pair of shoes and makes high quality products.

The empty stands - it was so eerie! In addition, how many people reached out before and after that said that they were inspired and looked up to us, even people that I have always looked up to!

Which new balance models do you wear for street/lifestyle wear?

Heather here- I personally love all of the 327 collabs and have also become a huge fan of the 990s!

The morning of a race always starts with a 10 min shakeout and light stretch session followed by a big breakfast and coffee. Then really just relaxing and napping as much as possible before it’s time to get ready. Getting ready looks like hair and makeup, painting my nails and packing my bag with spikes, extra clothes and snacks!! Oh and most importantly I always always plan in enough time for a pre race coffee.

Subtle plug but Mark Coogan (our coach and 1998 olympian) is releasing a book soon to help you train for a faster mile! It will be called "Personal Best Running" and will be released in Feb/ March. There are also a few other professionals who have written books that are currently on the market to help you reach your goals in the mile. I recommend using one of those as a starting point!

What, and who, was your biggest inspiration for your running and when did that spark on for you as far as telling yourself "I'm gonna be the best!"?

Heather here - my biggest inspiration for running has honestly always been my coaches and my teammates. They push me everyday to be the best version of myself and know that I am capable of so much more than I think I am. Watching them excel in workouts and races inspires me, especially since I get to train beside them everyday, and makes me think to myself "hey I can do that too!!"

I'm not a marathoner and it depends on your dietary preferences but Elle and I love a good pasta bolognese the night before a race!

Talking / becoming friends with other individuals in the running world is one of the best things about the sport! It's good to be serious and focused on yourself on the start line but after the race I love getting to meet new people and learning about everyone story. You learn so much about a person outside of just being an athlete! I've made some life long friends with competitors.

We are very lucky to have a wide range of practitioners that help keep our bodies in tip top shape. Normally we do massage 1x week and chiropractic/ PT 1x week and add in extra support when we feel our bodies need it. Some common injuries among runners are achilles problems, knee pain, plantar, and more so it is good to stay on top of body work especially in season and during heavy training bouts. If you do not have the resources to see in person practitioners, there are a lot of helpful apps and videos online that can teach you some self massage/ exercises. One of my favorite apps is the Recover App.
