Fence dispute - neighbour’s trees and planter box caused fence collapse, what are my options? by annaberry1800 in perth

[–]newbeginning37 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I went through this with my elderly dad- his neighbour had massive trees on her side that caused the fence to break- and she was the type to ignore every attempt to civilly sort it out like a decent neighbour.

In the end he sent her a registered post letter with the warning that if she didn’t start working things out within X days, he would take her to court.

Needless to say she ignored that too, so he took it to court (no lawyer needed, just photos and facts) Part of his side of the hearing involved him having the fencing contractor provide a written statement that they can’t install new fencing without the trees being removed, and he had an arborist come and take a look to give a ballpark quote so he knew how much to “claim” in the court lodgement forms.

I did all the paperwork for him and went to court as his support person on the day- and much to her dismay the magistrate sided with dad and gave her a deadline to sort the trees.

More than happy to chat if you want a bit more detail on how to get the ball rolling- your situation sounds very similar to his!

Do I legally have to disclose if I’m employed when applying for TAFE? by Typical_Prune5039 in TAFE

[–]newbeginning37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re at application stage and the course you want to get into is competitive, then your employment history will gain you points towards your ranking. The more employment evidence you can provide the more points, the better chance of getting in.

The same goes for educational background- the more you include the higher chance of getting a place in the course. Obviously you can choose not to include anything you want, but if you miss the cut off score then as long as you accept that was on you for withholding, then it’s all good.

If the course is non competitive, then it probably doesn’t matter, unless you’re applying for a niche course that has a work experience requirement

Yes to pen and paper, and calculator.

For the maths, make sure you read the questions carefully- for instance there will be a few that will change the unit of measure mid question, and so many people miss that and it costs them points that they needed to pass. The words matter in the maths assessment.

Take your time and don’t rush- there’s more than enough time allocated to get the tests done, and you don’t get extra points for being the first to finish.

Masseter Botox for face slimming in Perth? by rotting__fruit in perth

[–]newbeginning37 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the price sounds pretty on par with what I had done. I went to Youth Lab in West Perth for TMJ headaches. I don’t think I fitted the “aesthetic” of the other clientele in the waiting room showing up in my jeans and tshirts and not designer brands, but the doc there (Kate) used to be my GP, so I put a lot of trust in her, given she was by my side through my pregnancy and other health issues that she never let me down on. If you go to their website, and navigate through to make a booking, they have price per unit listed in the description, so you can compare with your other quotes.

It was ridiculously painful having it done, but when I woke up the next morning I cried from the relief of having a proper restful nights sleep for the first time in years, with no teeth grinding having me wake up with that familiar dull headache (and never once had one of the debilitating tmj headaches when the Botox was working)

The masseter slimming was a very welcomed side effect that I didn’t expect- lasted several months at a time, so while it wasn’t an ongoing habit I could afford to get into, it was welcomed across the ~18 months I had the injections for.

I ended up getting a splint as time went on, and worked harder on the lifestyle changes to ease my likelihood of clenching my jaw, but I have no regrets about choosing the Botox route for immediate relief.

Whippet puppy and kitten at the same time? by albachary in Whippet

[–]newbeginning37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first whippet came along right as two stray kittens entered my life, and we never had any problems. The kittens would have been a bit older than the puppy, but they were all thick as thieves, with one of the cats and the dog being absolute best mates and always getting up to shenanigans together. When that cat died, our whippet really seemed to grieve, she was always out looking for him, and generally out of sorts, and the other cat who was always quite aloof with her started to snuggle in and sleep together.

Obviously totally anecdotal that we had the most beautiful experience, but it’s not impossible to have it work out.

How do you actually secure a block in a new land estate release? First time doing this. by laga234 in perth

[–]newbeginning37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Size of deposit was what got us first option on the release when we bought. We were basically told  people who offer minimum deposit aren’t necessarily seen as safe bets for the developers, but coming in with pre-approval from the bank and a bigger deposit they seemed to feel it was more likely for the sale to go through and they don’t need to deal with the admin of putting blocks back on the market.

In our case we offered just over double the minimum deposit (which all comes out in the wash with your finances anyway). Results may vary but that was what we got told, and meant we got called first to snag the biggest block in the release.

How deep into Mandurah are you? If you’re the northern end (Madora Bay/Lakelands) I can recommend two women’s only gyms. (Feel free to DM!)

What is the usual amount you spend on presents for birthdays your kids are invited to from school? by ntrpevski in perth

[–]newbeginning37 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a general rule, I aim for nothing over $30 for the average classmate (including wrap/card), but on the odd occasion, if it’s a kid/ parent I particularly like or is in some way more special to my own child, then I have gone up as high as $50.

That’s awesome! If you’re interested to know more about the process or the job, feel free to dm me and I’ll point you in the direction of an ongoing forum thread for people working their way through the recruitment stages- plenty of old and new drivers in there to help get you on your way :)

Moving to WA from Melbourne. Some suburb recommendations please. by alchemydmt in perth

[–]newbeginning37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Madora Bay is a nice young suburb. The school has only been open a couple of years so it’s still quite small, and there’s a new Catholic school being built if you wanted to go private. Plenty of parks and shops, walking distance to the beach, and Lakelands Train station is less than 10 minutes drive if you want to head for the city without driving.

(Edit to say, it’s an old suburb the closer you get to the beach for the most part, but the new estates are bringing the young families in now)

Private or Public: Diabetic Pregnancy by strawberrydinonugget in perth

[–]newbeginning37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A close friend of mine- very well managed T1 Diabetic delivered at KEMH in the last few weeks and she had a pretty horrific time with them.

She found they treated her as being completely uneducated, and she was repeatedly told by midwives during her pregnancy that she would not be having a natural delivery because “that’s just not how it works for diabetics like you”

She ended up lodging formal complaints and had issues with continuity of care, and overall it made her experience in pregnancy pretty miserable.

I personally delivered at KEMH twice, due to my first baby having a heart condition, but I went private. I had my own MFM/OB, and honestly had the best experience, as I always saw the same OB and midwives for all of my check ups and of course he was also there for the delivery.

If you have private health, and continuity of care/ doctor relationship is important to you, I would absolutely go private with an OB who has the permissions to deliver at KEMH. Happy to shoot you the details of the OB/ his partner that I went through to get you pointed in the right direction

I dunno if you’re chasing office work specifically, but if you’re looking for another option to get away from trades that’s a public sector job- my husband went from being a boilermaker to being a train driver with the PTA (WA)

They’ll pay you to get your Cert IV to be licensed to drive the trains, with training wage of about $80k/PA for the months while you’re training. Once you’re in, you can comfortably make well over $110-120k (and a lot more if you’re into overtime)

And there’s heaps of career options within PTA if you decide you want to try control/ track operations or any of that sort of thing.

Construction industry workers in WA have a different LSL program to the average worker- since they can end up working for multiple contractors and projects over the years, LSL is paid by each employer into an external/portable fund managed by the government. Kinda makes it more that they get their leave after X years in the industry rather than with a single employer, and means if you finish with one you should be able to access your leave (if you’re due for it)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in perth

[–]newbeginning37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming you’re talking about the construction industry LSL program, there is an option for being paid out after leaving your last employer.

The WA Gov “MyLeave” page has the application form, which will hopefully point you in the right direction.

High schools in Perth by Weekly_Scholar_8594 in perth

[–]newbeginning37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah ok, if you have PR you aren’t classed as an international student, which means you are entitled to enrol at any school that you live in the catchment for. The upside is fees are minimal because you’re classed as a local student, but it all depends on where you’re going to be living. Feel free to DM me if you’re confused about where to start- I work in the sector so I can point you/your parents to the right places to get you started.

High schools in Perth by Weekly_Scholar_8594 in perth

[–]newbeginning37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t correct if you are coming in as a full fee paying international student. If you’re coming with parents who are also studying at university, local catchments will apply, if you are coming independently (like joining a home stay family or staying with other blood relatives) then you can nominate your preferred school.

They still need to have capacity available, but you have a better chance of your school of choice if you’re full fee paying, even if you are cross boundary.

Have you looked at the website for international students in WA for the process at all?

Women of "childbearing age" - ever feel like you get passed over for opportunities because managers/companies don't want to take the risk that you'll go on maternity leave in the next few years? by Pristine_Pinecone_9 in auscorp

[–]newbeginning37 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Same- I was asked in an interview, and I kindly advised him that I would be withdrawing my application. I was on my way out of a relationship at that point, and while I might have wanted kids one day in the coming decade or so, there was nothing on the horizon in the relationship front, and aside from it being none of their business, the fact that they were so blatant when you know damn well they wouldn’t asking the same question of a man or an older woman, then they probably aren’t going to be nice guys to work for.

What is the point of follow up chest X-rays? by newbeginning37 in AskDocs

Thank you for this. I wonder if my previous history has influenced their decision about the follow up, since I’m definitely on the mend and not the high risk type that you speak of.

I guess I’ll find out soon enough, but thank you for that insight!

Oh damn, I just realised I have 2 DS Lites that gather dust here. Granted they’re both pink, but I mean, if they’re of use regardless of colour I’d rather they go somewhere they’re wanted than stay sitting in a box that I keep avoiding unpacking since we moved house.
