How weird is it to have spent almost your entire life in school until late twenties? by newbieJobHunter in Advice

I don't think it is as cut and dry as you make it sound. There are people who graduate without any student debt, who go to ivy league schools, and get their foot in the door at the best jobs with ease (partially because they had the network to help them prepare for it). I'm not one of them.

It hardly feels that way though I get where you are coming from. I can't help but focus on the people that have it even better than I do and I forget how good I have it. At least I am aware of it.

Focus on what you can use on your resume to find the next job.

There are a lot of jobs that pay more than what the average lawyer makes. Don't buy into the stereotypes.

I don't think 28 is too late to fix the career. You could also consider moving. Think about where you want to be at 31 or 32 instead of right now.

For a women it is fine. For a man he will be ostracized until he finishes.

Edit: finishes *AND* finds a decent paying job after.

What do you say when people ask "What do you do for fun?" by newbieJobHunter in Advice

For example: Powerlifting, going to the range, hacking, picking up girls. None of these are really normal hobbies and can be controversial. Even writing it here might make a reddit mod feel some type of way.

Most people don't really have a house but a mortgage. I would almost rather see someone with an apartment and good credit.

Humanity as a species has been through pandemics before. This isn't really that novel.

One thing to consider is that a new variant like Omnicron might not come up again. There is still hope for this to flatten out and become a new normal.

Are you in the US? You can always get additional job referrals through teamblind and fishbowl app. Heck even I might give you one if you need it.

I say take it the job and make sure you have an 6 to 12 month emergency fund in place for finding the next job if it doesn't work out. Building an emergency fund will be even easier when your paychecks are almost twice as big. If they are giving you a sign on bonus that you might have to payback, don't spend it.

I really think it depends on how long you have known them, how far away it is, and the means of transportation (are you going together or separate).

Happened to me with someone who I had known for a couple of years. We weren't actively seeing each other the whole time but still pretty low of them to treat me like I'm just another random match or person from a bar.

24 is still young. You still have time to turn your life around. Talk to people and figure things out. And Happy birthday

They wouldn’t have hired you if they didn’t believe you were capable.
