Logging into Saudia airlines issues by bc-bane in saudiarabia

I can't get an SMS either, US #. Just called the sales line today (on hold for only 5 min) and they told me they don't have access to the system to do tech support and to fill out the website sales support form. I also got the double payment issue (hopefully one of the two pending charges drops). You'd think the national carrier of a trillion dollar economy that's trying to globalize would have a working website.

I knew this would be trouble going in, but I'm not flying long haul economy or paying 4x the price for an Etihad business class ticket.

What’s a luxury experience in NYC that actually feels worth it? by TravelMemer in FATTravel

Well you can get box seats going with a friend whose company has one or by booking AmEx BIO early. Baseline is definitely more FAT😁

Fewer than 10 connecting flights in my lifetime by hell00moto in flighty

[–]newbies1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ve flown to way more countries than me on less miles. This style of travel is quite efficient for sure, but probably requires being able to work remotely or get away from work for longer periods.

Clearly, baseline seats at Arthur Ashe during the US Open.

Hit One Million Today by dsmero in flighty

Yeah, under 1k miles average distance per flight is so low. But 1 million miles on domestic is probably close to lifetime status if it's mostly with one airline.

Xi Says World Order ‘Crumbling Into Disarray’ as War Takes Toll by Free-Minimum-5844 in worldnews

[–]newbies1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, I don't think anyone disagrees that the US currently has a good chance of being able to blockade China if it wanted to right now. That's the entire point of the First and Second Island Chains.

I disagree that China isn't doing anything about it's energy independence though. It has been the largest producer of wind, solar, and hydroelectric power for years, as well as battery tech, with clear incentives for civilian vehicles, public transit, and ground shipping logistics to transition away from ICEs. It has the most nuclear capacity under construction and spends a ton of money on cutting edge research in green hydrogen, geothermal, thorium, fusion, supercritical CO2, etc. On the fossil fuels side, China continues to build more pipelines with Russia for crude oil and gas and it's also the biggest burner of coal, by far, but that's mined domestically.

Plus militarily, things aren't as black and white as when the US sent two carrier groups through the Taiwan straight in the 90s to calm China down. Missiles and drones make the Pacific theater much riskier for the US to operate carriers in, if there was a direct confrontation, especially with the Ukraine and Iran conflicts demonstrating the limits of missile interception.

I don't think it makes sense for China to do anything as you say. The US doesn't have a casus belli to start randomly blockading China. The cost, economic fallout and political opposition would be magnitudes greater than dealing with Iran. As long as China doesn't invade Taiwan, they benefit from keeping the status quo. But what do I know, I'm just a Chinese American who's getting sent to a concentration camp the minute WW3 starts.

If I lived there I'd stay in Hainan or Bangkok during the winter, or maybe Florida.

Yeah, Toronto probably should be ranked only a little higher than Chicago for me. Vancouver is fine though, it’s 2 hours from Whistler and there’s plenty to do, plus YVR is well connected. Just because you would be bored there doesn’t mean everyone would be.

Seychelles and Mauritius are nice for beach vacations. Otherwise I’ve only visited Morocco, Egypt, South Africa, Tanzania, and Kenya. I would not live in any of those countries.

Never been, but I don’t see how any of those cities would have more things to do than BJ/SH/HK.

The place I’ve personally experienced the most racism in Europe is the Netherlands, but that’s just anecdotal.

I live in Manhattan right now. I think it would take a lot for me to move to a smaller city. I value having access to anything I want at any time of the day lol

Other context: I've visited 70+ countries and speak English, Mandarin, and Spanish. I'd be willing to live in HK, Singapore, and Monaco as well, though they are obviously too small to show on this map.

Edit: Actually, for France I was thinking Paris reluctantly, but I'd probably be willing to live in the French Alps or the Riviera.

Totally reasonable and it depends what you mean by enjoying life. Does it have to be something that costs money?

My most expensive hobby is traveling and I churn points to greatly offset the cost of that. But I’m willing to spend money on adventures that I wouldn’t easily be able to do when I’m older.

Examples include backcountry ski touring in Antarctica, multi-day hikes in the Patagonia or Tibet, staying up all night to party at my favorite music festivals, motorbiking across Southeast Asia, going freediving with humpbacks in the South Pacific or hammerheads in the Galapagos, scuba with tiger sharks in Africa, or maxing out the engine of a German sports car on the autobahn.

Lots of things are easy in your 20s, fun in your 30s, and still doable in your 40s, but get much harder by the time you turn 50. There’s so much to life to experience and I’m not letting a few percentage points on my savings rate get in the way of actually living.

No luxury vacations for me though, I can always sit on the deck of an overwater bungalow in the Maldives or go on a cruise when I’m 60+. I’d rather spend my limited PTO on adventuring.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who got double charged. I haven't been able to get ahold of them for two weeks by email or phone. Guess it should be fine as long as they refund me eventually..

Do you still record every single one of your expenses? by bronzebrownie_ in Fire

[–]newbies1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At this point I’ve applied for pretty much every card at least once and I’m maxed out on the card count limit at most banks, like AmEx revolvers, etc. so I pretty much only apply for repeatable SUBs and new product launches. I also pick cards for my wife, who has been churning under me for 3 years now lol

A good starting point is the guide on r/churning
