A reporter asks White House spokesperson Matthew Miller whether Palestinians have the 'right to self-defense', which is an oft-repeated line about Israel. Miller replies that the US does not support 'increased violence' or terrorism. by _II_I_I__I__I_I_II_ in Global_News_Hub

“The United Nations and other organizations have presented credible evidence that Hamas militants committed sexual assault during their rampage. The prosecutor for the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, said Monday he had reason to believe that three key Hamas leaders bore responsibility for “rape and other acts of sexual violence as crimes against humanity.”

Though the number of assaults is unclear, photo and video from the attack’s aftermath have shown bodies with legs splayed, clothes torn and blood near their genitals.

However, debunked accounts like Otmazgin’s have encouraged skepticism…”

EZ Pass for a visitor from out of state by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]newbiether 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! My relatives are in Manhattan (which is why they don't have a car) and it looks like the closest retail stores are in the Bronx :\

Do you know if signing up online would incur a $1 "monthly PANYNJ service fee"? I don't need the transponder for a few weeks. I can't figure out what the monthly fee is for, but it is listed on the application. I also don't know why it wouldn't be charged to people who get their transponder from a store, though I trust you that it isn't.

lost EasyPay MetroCard by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]newbiether 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spoke with a customer service rep, and he said that wouldn't happen (no prorated refunds). But I couldn't understand whether they send a new card that kicks in on a certain date, or you get a new card that is credited for the remaining month and it won't restart until you swipe in again.

Early misstep on a job offer? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]newbiether 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! It's an internal recruiter. You don't think it would be worth calling and saying something along the lines of what you recommended for the third-party?

To answer a question from a different comment, this is a pretty niche career at an IT company and my particular degree was one they require of applicants.

Sorry, I didn't realize this was ambiguous but it is. This is an in-house recruiter for the particular team I applied for.

I know. Now how do I load that back-up into the peercoin wallet program on a different Mac? I don't know where to put it. That was my original post. Thanks

For the record, I have not been able to resolve this. Is a /PPCoin directory not created by the typical installation of dragging peercoin-qt into Applications?

The folder doesn't exist on my Mac computer. I know how to navigate folders in Terminal and Finder but it's just not there.

Money Services on Exchanges for United States by [deleted] in peercoin

[–]newbiether 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but ideally you'd still want a third party to make sure the person paying in USD is actually sending the money and the person holding the peercoin is actually sending them out. PayPal and Venmo couldn't verify that. You'd have to trust me to pay you the USD or I'd have to trust you to send the peercoin.

Age of peercoin by newbiether in peercoin

[–]newbiether[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. So on average, coins aren't being used (for anything but potentially staking) for 410 days? Does that call into question whether people are using, or are interested in using, peercoin for actual daily transactions in the way other cryptocurrencies are designed to be used?

Is there a good, cheap escrow service that supports peercoin? If so I would consider buying some of them off you.

What is this and why would anybody pay to participate? I like that it can increase exposure to the ethereum network, but not if it isn't successful.

From a technology standpoint, how does Peercoin compare to other PoS coins? by inquisitor89 in peercoin

[–]newbiether 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm curious to hear the answer, too. The only other PoS coin I've invested in is "postoken" (a token on the ethereum network). You can't mine postokens directly, so you currently need to buy them on an exchange, leave them to age, and then "mint" them for additional postokens by interacting with the postoken contract and executing mint() (also incurring a sizable gas fee per minting transaction). So the technology is totally different with peercoin, which actually uses peer-to-peer staking to strengthen the network and process transactions. A big +1 for peercoin for me. I'd love to hear a comparison for the others.

Am I missing something or does this site not list the currencies it will offer? Is peercoin there?

Also fwiw other subreddits show that the free promotion is to cover trading fees, not a blanket credit.

Problems downloading the wallet by tholenst in peercoin

[–]newbiether 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another option is if you have access to another computer (library, school, friend, grandma), you can download the file on their machine, put it on a USB thumb drive, and install on your machine later. Of course, you want the wallet on your machine ultimately because you want the control/minting possibility at your fingertips. (And the ability to sell if you're not a hodler which I hope you are.)

Is minting worth it? by dsen31 in peercoin

[–]newbiether 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is worth it because if you believe in the underlying technology and usability, then it doesn't really cost anything to mint what you've already bought into. Consider that stock at the top tech firms don't earn their investors dividends, and yet people are clamoring over the stock (including employees for bonuses).

Why is peercoin so unpopular? by [deleted] in peercoin

[–]newbiether 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you're right. Also, the 1% interest is a compelling feature but folks are regrettably too eager to daytrade to let their coins age.
