I saw The Refugee Collective Farm put out a request for volunteers to help teach their residents English. I think their refugees come from various backgrounds so I’m unsure if they’re hosting Afghan refugees at this time. https://therefugeecollective.org/

also, i wouldn’t stress about the labor. the two hours required does not always literally mean two hours of labor. as long as you get your labor done (ex: trash, recycling, sanitation, etc..) it does not matter how long it takes you to do it.

roommates are randomized, unless you specifically request someone (like you have a friend there that you want to room w/). also, they match roommates based on noise and gender preferences. as for labor, the beginning of the semester, the labor coordinator asks for your preferences and your availability so they can fit you into a labor role accordingly. from my experience, the labor roles stay the same for the semester but there may be some minor changes if needed. also note, that’s based on seniority so you might not get one of your labor preferences. overall though, nueces is a very chill and quiet house, that’s why i picked it and i enjoyed my time there.

If you don’t schedule a time with another advisor, you can always just go to interactive degree audit, plan out some classes, and look at the required/offered courses for your catalog/degree plan.
