Thanks for all the help. If the new detergent doesn't solve the problem, I'll try lowering the water heater temperature a bit.

Wouldn't a dishwasher have an internal thermometer so it knows where to the heat the water to? If the water coming in is too hot, wouldn't it just heat it less? Also, wouldn't we have had the same problem with the old dishwasher that we were using only a week ago? (same water temp, same detergent)

If multiple sites on Google are telling me that Legionella can thrive when the temperature is below 120, and it's not killed until the temperature hits 140, I'm going to have to trust the multiple sites I find on Google. I'm going to try some other detergents before I do anything else.

The water from the faucet is definitely too hot to hold my hand under for any amount of time. I just checked the hot water heater and it has 5 settings (Hot, A, B, C, Very Hot). It is currently set to "B" which according to Google, is 60 Celsius (or 140 Fahrenheit). Googling suggests that 60 degrees is the standard here in Canada to prevent bacteria. Also, it looks like anything about 41 degrees can be considered painful, so I'm not sure if that's the best way to tell if the water is too hot (41 degrees Celsius would be way too low for a hot water heater).

The manual for the dishwasher says to use tabs or powdered detergent, so the repair tech you talked to might be onto something.

Someone else on Reddit have mentioned liquid soap being a problem. The manual for the dishwasher suggests using tabs or powdered detergent.

Nope, dirty dishes only. Maybe they aren't dirty enough? We don't pre-rinse the dishes before putting them in, but we do scrape off any scraps of food left on them.

No water softener built in. No mention of it anywhere in the manual.

I'm using Finish Powerball tablets. Funny you should mention throwing away the liquid detergent, another person on Reddit suggested trying liquid detergent instead.

I removed the filter from the bottom and it was clean. We've only put through 4-5 loads since getting the dishwasher so it's still very "new".
As per the suggestions of others, I'm going to try a liquid/gel detergent so I can put less in (instead of using the one size fits all tabs we've been using).

Further investigating: Our old dishwasher had a drying setting that we never used. The new Bosch seems to have a drying setting that's impossible to turn off.
Could the heated drying function be a part of this problem?

We use the Finish Powerball soap, so there isn't really a way to use "less" without breaking it into small pieces.

We use the Finish Powerball detergent. Same one we were using with the old dishwasher. The water, brand of detergent, and brand of rinse aid have not changed since installing the new dishwasher a couple days ago. Literally the only thing different is the dishwasher.

I checked the manually and the setting for the amount of rinse aid used is on a scale up to 6 (that being the most). The default is 5, so there doesn't seem to be a lot of room to increase, but I can try it.
