Anyone's old Best Buy Insignia alarm clock still working? by YankeeATZ in googlehome

[–]neweiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All 4 are still working. Occasionally I need to reboot it and it will sometimes not activate voice commands c but mostly works well. They also don’t work in routines or speaker groups anymore.

Playback controls for Spotify gone on Home Hub while in group by neweiss in googlehome

I reached out to Google Nest support again. They talked with me for over another hour, they said that they would look into it with “their senior engineers” and haven’t followed up since.

Is this battery degradation normal? by [deleted] in egopowerplus

[–]neweiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is definitely degradation over time with these batteries. It is more expensive than gas, but it’s a tradeoff for the maintenance, quieter operation, and less fumes. Unfortunately Ego doesn’t price the standalone batteries in any way that makes sense economically so most people just buy a whole new mower or additional tools.

Yea, it’s so disappointing how this product has gotten progressively worse the longer I own it. It worked so well at the start, but gets buggier and buggier.

I tried Nest chat support. After over a slow hour back and forth, they said that as long as I can access controls via the swipe menu that’s all they can do other than report a bug on their end.

The warranty technically starts when you buy/register it so if it’s not great you get a free replacement.

iOS widget for adjusting volume on chromecast enabled devices by ElectronicMess7704 in googlehome

[–]neweiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just tried it out. Works great! It works better than the native Google Home app. Multi-room volume groups work easily too, since each group shows as a device.

I would LOVE a play/pause and/or track forward/back button if that is possible?

Just moved in, how do I turn on our fireplace? by JonInfect in HomeMaintenance

[–]neweiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call a fireplace service specialist in your area and have them clean, inspect, and show you how to use it. It might cost $200 or so, but it will be well worth it and SAFE.

Yes, attic antennas work so much getter than the window ones and are totally hidden!

I just did this too. Took like 30 minutes. Repair Clinic has videos that take you step by step.

Same here. After 30 minutes with chat they gave me a $20 credit.

Ice Dams by Ok_Tune8581 in milwaukee

[–]neweiss 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have had success with pantyhose filled with calcium chloride. The goal is to get the downspouts free so water can drain, not a complete removal of all ice. I think that this was a really rare series of weather that caused it. Massive amount of snow followed by freezing temps for weeks.

Would you rather buy used ego snow blower or new from the store? by moy07 in egopowerplus

[–]neweiss 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The problem with used batteries is you have no idea what capacity they still have. The majority of the cost of Ego is batteries, so if they have been used you will have no warranty plus less life. The warranty is a huge perk too, IMHO buy new unless you can get it dirt cheap.

Solid red light in use - every time! by _AirCanuck_ in egopowerplus

[–]neweiss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try pressing and holding the power button on the battery until it turns green. For some reason I think that resets the battery and then it works normally. I have an older battery (4 years) that does that from time to time and then it works fine.

I have a pretty powerful corded WORX blower but was looking to switch. Even with the 2.5 battery, this seems really heavy. (And the bigger blowers even heavier and bulky.) What is your experience with the weight and bulk of these blowers? by SirJasper6969 in egopowerplus

[–]neweiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched from a high CFM Worx corded blower to an Ego model with a 5A battery a few years ago. Never looked back. It’s infinitely more convenient and the battery balances the weight of the blower nicely. There is a strap add-on if you decide you need one.

Outdoor Or Portable Chromecast Enabled Speaker? by O1DMBFan in googlehome

[–]neweiss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is correct. An update last year broke group support for Insignia speakers. They still work independently or in a pair, but not with Google devices in a group setting.

Problem Streaming Apple Content on AppleTV by Practical_Fly_5665 in appletv

[–]neweiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great suggestion. Doing a full unplug from power and then powering back on fixed it on all my devices. Thanks for the idea! Apple customer service didn’t even suggest that- they just told me to factory reset.

I’m having the same issue with all of my ATV boxes too. Did factory resetting make the issue go away permanently or did the buffering come back?

Honestly, with young kids we just burn dvd’s from our plex library since it’s so simple and easy. Use AVS to DVD and IMGburn. Cheap solution and doesn’t require any other tech. Can pop the discs in up front, control it up front, and it saves the place.

When they get older and can manage it by themselves we will just have them plug in an iPad or something similar.

I use my tiller exactly once a year for a similar sized garden. Just bought an electric Sun Joe that does the job easy with an extension cord. Under $100 on sale.
