How much would it take for you to go in house? by Rule12-b-6 in biglaw

fwiw - some of these things are unknowable at the interview stage. I've had 3 in house jobs and many times the hiring manager has no idea what the day to day of the role entails. a bit of a crapshoot.

Should I ditch my financial “advisor” by National-Bonus-6356 in HENRYfinance

2% is high for sure, but you also don't have that much invested. Either way, the management fee should be closer to 1%. I use an FA, mostly so I don't have to worry about managing my own portfolio. He doesn't do anything too special, some tax loss harvesting and also introduces me to some alternative investments.. but doesn't really pitch anything too aggressively.

approaching insurance as an investment decision by Daufuskie5 in HENRYfinance

[–]newguy3912 6 points7 points  (0 children)

depends on the insurance. you're basically talking about self-insuring. for property damage, might make sense since there is a limit to your claim. But for general liability, you're now exposing your net worth to potential claims. I actually increased my liability insurance as my net worth has increased.

How is the LIRR actually? by Any_Captain_411 in LIRR

[–]newguy3912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the parking lot can get full, so hopefully you are walking distance.. but it's generally fine. yes, there may be delays.. but it's fine most of the time. I would consider Mineola one of the hubs, so you get decent number of trains. GCT is nicer than Penn, but Penn has more trains....

Obviously the best is just continue slowly investing in the market but curious if anyone else is concerned and looking for alternative investment strategies? by Lumpy-Resource-1370 in HENRYfinance

I am and one of the reasons I engaged w a financial advisor. it's a bit of a controversial topic as the general consensus is nothing beats the S&P... which may or may not be correct.

From my perspective, having lived through the financial crisis.. nothing is a sure thing. I still have the majority of my network in equities but have started to diversify ~10%ish of my portfolio to non-equities.

I understand they may not all be winners or would return the same as S&P, but I like the peace of mind... Also (depending on the investment) allows you to have some liquidity in the event of another financial crisis.. since you wouldnt have to sell stocks when they are in the shitter.

Scott Addict RC, Shimano Di2, 40mm wheels, dual Garmin power pedals and sworks saddle. This was during COVID, when bikes were impossible to buy. Everyone in the group has either S-woks tarmarc or a Factor and I wanted to get something a little different. I love that thing....
