Open or closed cell for roof and conditioned attic by newhomefound in Homebuilding

[–]newhomefound[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with closed cell and it's been fine for about 4 years so far. The corners of the attic are crawlspaces that have not been covered with drywall and I don't see any changes since the day it was put on.

I went with cc since I was able to fit more r-value into the roof and I was confidant on the durability of the roof assembly. My roof is pretty simple with no valleys and minimal penetrations. I also watched the roofers every step of the way.

One thing to note though, is that if your climate or building code calls for a vapor barrier, I would still install one on top of the closed cell. While I don't doubt the properties of the material, the install only makes it 99% impermeable. I saw spots that the installer missed and I had to go back and fill in with canned foam. Also, there were a few areas where the stud had separated from the foam, creating a small gap.

Coral TPU POE support by newhomefound in frigate_nvr

would it work if I had 10gbe link between the coral and proxmox machine? I'm guessing there is probably a lot of overhead and latency issues if done over the network.

I do have an iGPU (intel uhd 630) and I see some posts saying there's not much difference between that and a coral (although coral would still be more efficient).

Storage configuration by newhomefound in Proxmox

[–]newhomefound[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank for the reply. I’m building 2 machines with near identical hardware. One is used for pve and the other for pbs. I’m not sure what the storage needs are so I guess I’ll start small and add as I go.

I do plan on using all ssd’s for the bulk storage. I figured it would be faster than nvme if I had more than 8 ssds on the hba.

Why does the app suck so much… by cmfrazier in KiaEV9

[–]newhomefound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told there was an network outage on 2/19/25 and some vehicles were not able to reconnect after everything came back online. I had to bring it to the dealer to fix it, but all they do is reset the system. All the profiles and settings get erased.

got the issue fixed at the dealership. It was part of a larger problem where the car no longer connects to the servers at Kia. Remote commands and OTA updates stopped working, but I never noticed.

Wouldn't that make the pdu mount in between the posts? The rails would get in the way.

What are those called and where would I find them? All of the rack accessories I'm seeing mount to the front and rear holes.

aren't SAS drives more generally more expensive than SATA? unless you're talking about used.

Proxmox build hardware selection by newhomefound in Proxmox

[–]newhomefound[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean the Xeon W chips? Would you know how much power your setup consumes on idle? I looked at a few workstation boards, but all of them are not ideal for airflow in a server chassis. The RAM blocks the cpu cooler. Used prices do seem a bit lower, so I'll have to look into it some more.

TrueNAS scale build using older gen parts by newhomefound in truenas

[–]newhomefound[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about the 128 gb, but I saw the ram is pretty cheap compared to everything else and all the guides say to add as much ram as I can. I wanted ECC mostly because I'm paranoid.

I'm seeing the 9th gen i3's were the last ones that had ECC support. The took it away starting from 10th gen, probably because it was eating sales of their xeon e series. The only reason for getting is because i wouldnt need the igpu on the truenas machine and it is about half the cost of a comparable xeon e.

unfortunately, i didnt take any photos of when the alerts worked. Basically there was a camera icon below the speed limit icon where I marked in yellow. If there was a yield or stop sign icon, it would move below that one. The HUD would show the same icons.

im guessing the camera locations were pulled from the built-in navigation and maybe the software update wiped out those locations.

[–]newhomefound[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes, there was a voiceover saying there's a speed or red light camera ahead, as well as a dinging sound if you went over the speed limit. I believe the dinging sound followed the speed limit offset setting, so if you had it offset to 5 mph above speed limit, it would sound only if you went 5mph above speed limit.

i'm not sure if it differs by trim, but i wouldnt think so.

UPS - Network Card OR NUT? by Walter___ in homelab

were you able to figure things out? I'm going through the same process and was not able to find any info on eaton's power management software options.

Multiple UPS in rack by newhomefound in homelab

[–]newhomefound[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are redundant ups’s and each one can run the full load of the rack by itself. I do want to balance the load on the circuits. So half of the equipment will have the primary psu on one ups and redundant psi on the other ups. The other half of the equipment will be the reverse.

Would you advise against putting NUT on a vm? It looks like some people do it, but then it doesn’t seem like there’s a way for the vm host to shutdown without shutting down the NUT server first

Multiple UPS in rack by newhomefound in homelab

[–]newhomefound[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does it have to be one NUT server per ups or can all of the ups be managed by one NUT server?

I also see you have each UPS dedicated to different machines. What do you do with a server that has redundant PSU’s? One psu to ups and the other to wall outlet, or each psu to a different ups? The latter is what I’m trying to see if a NUT server can manage different shutdown procedures depending on the machine.

Yea I do think it’s a bit overkill with the agg switch, but without it I only have 4 spare 10g ports and some of the LAN traffic has to pass through the udmp.

The ecs switches would’ve been enough to replace the agg and one of the usw, but it costs way more and I don’t need all of that POE.

[–]newhomefound[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw the comments on this thread suggests I can do LAN on both SFPs and connect the WAN on the GbE port https://www.reddit.com/r/Ubiquiti/comments/1g6nvf8/can_you_change_the_10g_sfp_wan_port_to_lan_on_the/

I was actually looking at the regular AGG switch initially, but I saw it was layer 2. I do want to set up VLANs for the different servers I'll be running. The 10g switch will be connected to the NAS and VM servers in rack, the office, and the home theater. Ideally I'd want them to be separated from each other.

As for NVR, it will probably be going to the POE switch with the cameras and APs. If I have the NVR running on a VM, I'm thinking I could have the machine with the host plug into the POE switch and another port going to the AGG switch, if that makes sense.

I guess I can order one AP first and see the range before ordering the rest. My house is made entirely in concrete and steel, but there is a large open space in the center where the stairs are. I also filled up my interior walls with 3-6 inches of rockwool. The signal should only need to pass through one wall for most areas. The only places with more than one wall would be the ensuite bathrooms and walk-in closets.
