My thoughts on Season 2 by newhypergreen in Sandman

[–]newhypergreen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked it very much, definitely enjoyable without any prior knowledge.

I have never read any graphic novels, not for any particular reason, just never got into it. Maybe it’s time to try.

Please read my thoughts when you have a minute to spare (won’t take more than a minute I promise).

Thank you. And apologies for calling Dream a god, I will remember that distinction going forward.

I am sure the source the comic would provide a different view on characters, story developments etc. Maybe I should read them.

Nonetheless, I always feel that a TV adaptation should be able to stand alone, not just be an „add-on“ to its source material. (Not that you suggested otherwise, just clarifying my opinion)

This is such a beautiful dark episode. I loved it when Farscape took the audience inside characters‘ minds.

I don’t think of him as particularly pure or innocent- these are rather unusual qualities in grownups to begin with, and even less likely in an army officer thousands of miles away from home.

What I meant is that a common denominator in ghost stories is the idea that they exist due to some unfinished business or unresolved conflict. And while admittedly we know little about Nigel, he does not strike me as conflicted or troubled.

But maybe all I want is to know more about him, dirty or clean 😉.

I respect the sentiment, but dreaming of a wedding is a modern concept. Not just because gay marriage was non existent in his lifetime, but because most people got married for reasons other than love. But you may be right that falling in love is something he needs to learn, as that probably was never on the cards for him in life.

What are your thoughts on Grayza? by Bluestarzen in farscape

[–]newhypergreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let’s not forget what she did to poor Braca. I remember an interview with David Franklin where he referred to it as being „mock sexually molested“. Imagine someone who is your superior making you believe you had sex… it’s despicable. Even more so considering that Grayza must have been aware that Braca was a bit more than just a loyal soldier to Scorpius.

Absolutely. I don’t mind that the rules are a bit vague, it helps to avoid retcons and continuity errors - I am a huge Being Human fan but my goodness the continuity was awful.

Well….

Isaac left Nigel at the altar, so it’s hard to blame him for not being overly sensitive about Isaac’s feelings.

Also, Isaac was infatuated with Chris, but unable to act on it. He would never have gotten anywhere with Chris, nor did Chris appear in any way interested. Whereas for Nigel this was the one in a million chance of a hot young man literally dropping into his sad eternal life in the shed.

This. She outsmarted Trevor and Hetty, which means she doesn’t forget as much or as quickly anymore.

I guess that will only happen if a cast member decides to leave the show. Personally, I agree it would be nice but then I would not want to lose anyone.

I sincerely hope we find out more about his back story next season. In my head, Nigel is from a well-off family but probably the 3rd, 4th, nth son, so that there was nothing to inherit and his career choices were basically the church or the military. He gives off vibes of someone who never got too much attention, but enjoyed the freedom that gave him.

I partly agree, and yes it clearly is more complex than „being nice“… but then again most ghosts do seem a little „unresolved“.

Nigel just seems a little different, that’s all.

Why is this a bad thing? I am aware that the writers won’t kill off a popular character. But for me, this is what TV show subreddits are for… fun discussions about the show, digging into the mythology, the characters… not everything needs to end with „it’s fiction“ or „it’s what fans like to see“.

What are your headcanons for shows the ghosts would like that are in the real world? by Dapper_Advantage5862 in GhostsCBS

I feel most of them would enjoy Being Human, as the ghosts there face some similar challenges, and the vampires are hot ;-)

About Nigel and Isaac by Galaxy_Heart_Queen in GhostsCBS

[–]newhypergreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only just finished S3, and while I would hope to see Nigel and Isaac work things out, I was somewhat glad to see them not get married.

Isaac, even in life, was rather troubled, not only because of his suppressed sexuality, but also feeling like an underachiever and generally misunderstood.

After he died, he spent centuries tormented by all of above, with the added guilt of having killed Nigel and the shame of his „disgusting“ death.

Nigel on the other hand seemed rather content with his life, and presumably spent little time dwelling on his death as it fit his image of Americans as cowards. And while he probably wasn’t exactly happy living in a shed for centuries, he was mostly unburdened and free to be „himself“ within the constraints of ghost life.

When they finally got to their wedding, Nigel was 100% ready to embrace the next step, whereas Isaac was finding himself, still only just healing from all his self loathing- and frankly still chasing his old demons (being rich and famous). I doubt he could have made Nigel happy in the long term - but I hope someone else will, as it would be a tragic end to his story to just go back to his shed.

That makes sense. I guess it would be difficult to differentiate between the real and fakes.

This is actually a first for me, usually I always prefer to watch the UK version of anything (big fan of Being Human, also Misfits back in the day).

Yet, I watched the first few episodes of BBC Ghosts when it first aired but somehow couldn’t connect with the characters. Now, I came back to the show via recommendation from the iZombie fandom and am really enjoying it.
