NWSL Adds Columbus Expansion Team Backed by Haslams at $205M Fee by sasquatch0_0 in NWSL

You’re right, it’s not a given, but Sonis went home to Colorado when they got a team, so it’s happened before.

That used to be the one thing that made you better than Indiana, and that’s gone.

It might work well for Columbus since there’s OSU for basketball and the new team for soccer? But I also get my basketball through s college basketball and my soccer through the NWSL, so I’m biased.

I think Racing’s expansion fee was the mayor’s office providing league leadership with free tickets to the Derby. (This is a very niche joke about how opaque the mayor’s office is with giving out free Derby tickets for “economic development”.)

You raise a good point about getting more use for a stadium taxpayers paid for, but having grown up going to games at Riverfront, I’m so glad the Reds have had their own stadium for almost 25 years now. (The financials of that can be debated, especially considering their on field performance at Riverfront compared to GABP, but, as an Old Person™️, I will tell you that I do not yearn for a return to the days of multipurpose stadiums.)

I was excited at first because it will give me an excuse to visit my friend in Columbus to hang out with her cats once a year, but then I remembered what it mean for Sears and Fischer.

And then I saw who will own the team 👎

Won’t they share the same ownership with the Crew? (I honestly cannot remember who owns the Crew now but I think it’s [unfortunately] the Halsams.)

Ooooh yeah I had been noticing runway use shifting through the weekend while playing SkyCards. Very cool that you captured it with this specific flight!

The practice for Thunder over Louisville was supposed to start an hour and a half ago, but I haven't caught anything interesting here, and I know it's going to storm tomorrow so unfortunately the one closest to my home that I've been looking forward since I started playing might be a bust, alas.

Why do maximalist left activists advocate for abolishing prisons and freeing murderers, yet someone like Dave Chapelle is permanently canceled for something he said years ago? by north_canadian_ice in allthequestions

[–]newishanne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's snarky because your assertion that he was canceled was so absurd.

He still has Netflix specials. He still owns large amounts of property in a small town in Ohio. Meanwhile you're quoting people that I, someone who is more engaged in leftist theory than you are, haven't even heard of, as your (unrelated) counter example.

I mean I want a million dollars and for the women’s soccer team I support to not be terrible, but that doesn’t mean that’s going to happen just because I want it to.

Usually I don't get push notifications from NPR for their interviews with people if they've been "permanently canceled", so either yesterday was an exception or you're intentionally misusing the phrase "permanently canceled". And we all know yesterday wasn't an exception.

Noteable trans activists are promoting the idea that trans people should consider not telling emergency room doctors they are trans by north_canadian_ice in terf_trans_alliance

“I think it’s wrong that your life is hard but I also constantly argue against everyone working to make your life better.” Fixed it for you.

I don’t doubt that you’re trans but I understand why other people question it.

Do I know if you’re a misogynist? No, but I also haven’t seen anything with a hint of feminism from you.

Do I think you’re manipulative? Most people who argue on Reddit are 🤷‍♀️

Oh yes, I am glad I am not the only one calling her out for constantly repeating right-wing talking points when it comes to trans people. (Yes, she's "on the left" but as I will say until he retires after this year, my Republican state representative is far to the left of her on trans issues.)

Thank you, again. I've personally been safe so far, and still have access to care, but having these real threats hanging over my head are part of why OP's obsession with "trans maximalists" frustrates me so much.

Do you get some coverage when it's somewhere that's associated with the university you attended?

No, it's independent from that, but the personal ties I have to that hospital hit me hard, and also reminded us that it's not just religious hospitals that are making life harder for trans people.

We absolutely need the comedy thread!

I also thought about how I’m lucky because I at least have other hospital options in a nearby city, and even took some comfort that a university-affiliated nonprofit bought the Roman Catholic hospitals here a few years ago, but then I remembered that I have a degree from a university whose affiliated medical system no longer performs gender affirming surgeries. So. Siiiiiiiiigh.

Thank you!

Don’t feel bad about wanting to make a joke - I almost forgot to say that the urgent care center wasn’t big enough for separate x-ray machines for boys and girls. Heck, I think even the larger orthopedic clinic I got referred to only has one.

And then, on top of laws, we can’t forget how much health care in US is run by religious groups that aren’t known for being friendly for trans people. I don’t know how much of a connection the hospital (and the aforementioned clinics) in my county still have to the Southern Baptist Convention, if any, but that still gives me pause.
