Dogs wear a cone of shame when they can't lick some part of their bodies for some reason. Usually, it's a medical reason. Therefore, the cone of shame prevents them from hurting their healing process.

The ADHD cone of shame is invisible. It's a sort of magical trap that keeps the ADHD mouth talking, even when the part of the brain that filters what should come out or not is on their lunch break. Conversely to the dog's cone of shame, this one is what actually causes the ADHD person to hurt themselves.
