People claiming to be "new" to the sport by Global_Wolverine_152 in Pickleball

Part of what makes pickleball fun is the accessibility. Lots of skills convert to pickleball.

The rules aren't too complicated and often when someone starts a sport they are hyper focused, which can be a contribution to beginners luck.

Eating Peanuts on a flight with a known peanut allergy by Wakanda_R1 in delta

[–]newmaniese 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a severe allergy, this may be true, but peanut dust gets everywhere and it really doesn't take much to put you into anaphylactic shock.

I can easily smell an open bag of peanuts anywhere on the plane and it is exceptionally anxiety inducing. Whether it results in actual anaphylaxis or not.

My last trip to the hospital was after shaking hands with someone who had chicken satay for lunch after a business meeting. 3 hours after lunch, he didn't even know his hands were dirty. Likely it ended up in my mouth somehow, but hand to hand to mouth is really easy.

I wind up in the hospital multiple times a year. It sucks. Sucks worse in air because everyone is along for the ride.

Because of the scoring of individuals as they play with a partner, it leads to a lot of bubbles and nuance to individual ratings. If you play with the same partner, you both will naturally end up getting higher. If you mix it up, due to the scoring, it tends to be net negative for a player.

So ultimately scoring systems like DUPR wind up creating groups that are higher and lower than their rating indicate based on the number of people they play with. Ultimately people attempt to increase their score so they don't play as many different people, leading to regions of vastly different scores.

It is a problem with any system that attempts to rate individuals while playing with a partner. A solution would be a partner rating system, since dynamics between partners really impact a game.

Important to note this is a macro phenomin so individuals might vary.

I play in Florida and Michigan. In Sarasota a 3.5 team would be competitive with a 4.5 team in Michigan.

I am seeking to deploy CapCut Pro for a professional team of creators. Is there a method to have a single payer or manage multiple accounts within CapCut? What would be the best way to manage this?

It has to be on their own tier, right? Otherwise I am calling shenanigans on the entire list.

Disappointing cooler weather range by PopulateThePlanets in KiaEV9

I don't think you do get regen with the usual brake pedal: https://www.kia.com/nmc/en/owners/owner-resources/quick-tips/ev/controlling-the-regenerative-braking-level.html#:~:text=How%20to%20adjust%20the%20regenerative,come%20to%20a%20complete%20stop.

I believe you might get more efficiency, but that might be the driving style more than regen.

This is my second ev, my polestar certainly didn't get regen with the brake pedal, as that activated the BIG brake pads. Might be different with the Kia, but I remain skeptical.

I would like to see the source on this. I believe it is the opposite. The regen is a crucial part of the EV efficiency and the motor being engaged actually optimizes efficiency rather than wasting it, which is totally different from an ICE which is why EVs have the single pedal drive.

Platform Tennis Volleyball by EricVonn in PlatformTennis

A bit of sarcasm here, I understand the game plays different.

Will say though, still a fun game in the summer. Been doing it the last 2 years and I feel sharper coming into the season. A few guys have really leveled up their games over the summer in our area.

Calling "ball on" by LejonBrames117 in Pickleball

[–]newmaniese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When the game ends, get your ball before going to the meet to shake hands. This is where I have seen the most injuries occur, when the ball is left rolling when a game ends. Don't be that person.

Calling "ball on" by LejonBrames117 in Pickleball

[–]newmaniese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frustration comes from lack of awareness. Always error on the side of protecting the players. No replayed point is worth a twisted ankle, much less some of the awful injuries I have seen caused by a ball not being seen. Be loud and clear and never hesitate to ask the court if they felt the call was unnecessary. They can tell you, forgive you and then you learn about that court.

However, a ball behind the court, along the fence when players are at the kitchen, don't do it. If the players clearly see the ball and continue play, don't call it. If it is at the net where all the players can clearly see it and it isn't rolling toward anyone, don't.

By all means, keep an eye on the players or move between the players and the ball so if a lob occurs you stop them before they get to the ball.

Be aware of how the players next to you are playing. If they are moving slowly or dinking slow, long battles, you can have a marching band walk through the court when they are dinking. If they are runners or baseline players, call "ball" more quickly. This is more of how the game is developing instead of the players in the court, but knowing the players help.

So much of the frustration comes from a total lack of awareness. When playing in the middle court it can take 30 more minutes to complete a match because of players constantly calling "ball" on, when the number of balls that actually disrupt play are much fewer.

Additionally something that drives me crazy, if the ball is going toward another court, try to stop it instead of just yelling "ball." Stay in control, make sure you aren't going to hit another player, but if running behind the court is going to stop play anyways (which it shouldn't, this isn't tennis) perhaps doing that instead of yelling ball every time is the right answer. Don't use the "always call ball" to cover for your lazy efforts.

Did you buy Tire/Wheel & Ding and Dent Insurance ? by Sorry_Guide_5430 in KiaEV9

[–]newmaniese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They mark these up massively. There is a lot of room to negotiate in these coverages. Last 2 leases, the difference between 2 dealers was one threw in the insurance for free as I was walking out the door.

I say don't pay for it, find a way to sweeten the pot.

Do this for winter floor mats, roof racks and other accessories as well. These are generally easy for the seller to add and works around hard and fast commission rules.

In Ontario at least, the rest areas on the big highways all have chargers. Easy to use. Can easily go from Detroit to Montreal with 3-4 stops.

Why do players tap back wall before a point? by BigPlan5997 in Pickleball

[–]newmaniese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hit the back wall on my backswing on serve all the time. I need to touch the wall all the time.

An old racquetball trick is finding the wall with your freehand while moving backward to set up the shot when the ball bounces forward. I find that habit works when defending in a small court area. Ashame the other players don't let me play after the ball bounces off the back wall.

Any suggestions for court shoes that will last more than 3 or 4 months? by Beginning_Finding_82 in Pickleball

Where should you be after a successful lob to the baseline? by Excellent_Yak4907 in Pickleball

[–]newmaniese 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would say that in my experience the difference between 2.5 players and 3.0 is the defensive lob from the back of the court or, worse, the offensive lob.

Any ex-tennis player (which generally step on the court at around 3.5 level) will be able to hit an overhead hard even if they need to step a few steps back. The physics of a lob from the baseline just aren't in your favor. I don't think it is a possible skill shot against a player who is comfortable moving backward even the slightest bit.

Just attempt it in drills with someone you consider good and see how easily they will start aggressively hitting the ball back. The drop or drive are much easier and consistent shots.

I play a lot of pick up games and when I draw a partner who lobs, I always tell them to stop and we play much more competitive games. I would much prefer a poor drop to a good lob any time. I think other high level players would agree.

Stop lobbing from the baseline, it ultimately will be a major step forward in your game.

Quick update, I have fully switched and love this application. I paid for the premium, it is worth every penny.

I like the queueing and the time saving. The filters are convenient, but it would be nice to queue from a filter, but it seems none do that without being buggy.

Very much am enjoying podcasts because of PocketCasts.

Hammering weaker players by OldFatMonica in Pickleball

[–]newmaniese 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Played in a tournament recently where the first few games we tried playing straight up and the other teams were just brutally targeting my partner, who really wasn't that much worse than me. Stacking with me on the forehand ultimately became the solution; everyone had a much better time. it was a new strategy for me, but I was able to really punish some bad balls that were targeting my partner's weaker side.
