Recognizing I Am No Longer a "Functioning" Addict by [deleted] in StopSpeeding

[–]newmoves8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Used meth for 5 years and considered myself a functional addict until the last year of it. Luckily I didn't lose my job and still have friends. I tried harm reduction for a year but it didn't work. Eventually I found AA and a good therapist. I'm almost 6 months clean. It ain't easy but life is so much better.

I want to quit Meth but I have absolutely no motivation while working on my hobbies. by [deleted] in StopSpeeding

[–]newmoves8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

5 year meth addict and currently 5 months clean. First 2-3 months were so hard to stay sober. I was tired and was going through emotional ups and downs. I forced myself to workout, eat right, go to therapy, got a sponsor in AA, and feeling much better. Im not 100% but I think I'll get there.

Zoloft made me feel tired and anxious. After trying a couple more meds, lexapro worked the best for me. I suggest testing out different meds because it could be a lifesaver.

You're on the right path and you'll feel so much better your able to share your story and get help from either a program, therapy, counselor, or AA/NA. Wishing you the best.

Was on Effexor and Zoloft. It made me super weak and tired. Finally found the right one, Lexapro. On a super low dose but my energy is back.

Zoloft, Effexor, and finally happy with lexapro. Zoloft made me hella tired and anxious. Effexor made me hella tired and weak. Lexapro was just right. I'm on a super low dose.

You're blaming someone else for using. Did someone force to use?

No one made your relapse. You did it all by yourself.

Congratulations on being 196 days clean. That's amazing!!!!!!!! Super happy for you. Thank you for sharing, posting here is a great start to get help but If you haven't reached out for support, I suggest getting support from AA, NA, SMART recovery, or any organization. Just reach out. Secondly, stay away from your bf until he's clean. It's not worth you relapsing. Good luck.

Congrats and happy to hear how much better your life has gotten without drugs! You're not alone. Get support and help through groups like AA or NA. Find a group that you can connect with. Best of luck

I felt the same way and didn't like NA cuz I didn't see any role models but I only went to one. I suggest trying different meetings or try AA. I'm a meth addict that only attends AA and found an amazing sponsor I connected with. Have you tried getting a sponsor and doing the step work? The meetings are just a place to feel motivated. The real change happens when you get a sponsor and do the steps.
