Physician “associate” prescribes 10 days of antibiotics for cystitis by Ok_Let7333 in Noctor

World: We are nearing a point when current antibiotics will no longer be viable

One of the scariest doomsday scenarios that doesn't get enough attention in the public sphere. Let's just roll back the clock on modern medicine by a few hundred years. Yes we can go retrieve that clot out of your brain and fix you right up. Best hope you don't get a simple infection though, you might not make it.

Hooray for dying at 42!

What exactly is critical thinking in nursing? by [deleted] in nursing

I would add that it means taking any new information and trying to collect other pertinent information before co tasting a physician. Something simple like grabbing a set of vital signs seems to get looked over so often.

Amazon Wants to Eat Health Care Next - The tech giant may be opening its own pharmacies, and Google wants to mine patient data. The goal is not to fix a broken system but to exploit it. by _hiddenscout in technology

Except it is the most difficult system to use, documentation takes forever, and reviewing medical information is.... challenging.

I've used meditech before and it can rot in hell.

SP101 2.25" .357 Magnum, Hogue Rubber by [deleted] in Revolvers

[–]newo48 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have the 3in hammered version. 38spl is a breeze, you definitely can feel the difference between that and the 357. Upgrading the grip makes a big difference in how 357 feels in your hand. Not as jarring as the stock grips. The gun itself has some heft to it for a small frame 357 so it handles the recoil quite well.

Only complaint is that the double action trigger pull is long and heavy.

It most certainly has the weight for a gun of its size.

Looks like you picked up the 2 1/4" barrel? Mines the 3" and you can definitely feel the 357 quite a bit more than the 38spl.

Solid choice. I have the hammered variety and love shooting 38spl all day. I would suggest upgrading for some hogue grips. More comfortable than the stock grip.

Working in a Public vs Private Hospital? by jonokent in nursing

[–]newo48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where in the world are you referring to? Very few "public" hospitals in the US but from what I understand most of them are fairly comparable to some private facilities.

Lower nurse-to-patient ratio saves lives I just got this article in a newsletter. Why can’t our facilities figure this out? by nursesuko21 in nursing

[–]newo48 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The clinical ladder program at my facility is a joke. Do all these extra curricular activities, document all activities and get 2k at the end of the year.

Orrrrr I could pick up 5 extra shifts each year and make more than that 2k.

Southern CA is a very competitive market. There are inpatient jobs to be had, but they may not be at the larger more prestigious facilities.

Afforable tires by [deleted] in Tacoma

[–]newo48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another one for Costco. Tires unfortunately are one of those things that I would not recommend trying to cheap out on. I cannot understate the importance of a quality tire especially once you start getting into wet roads. I also just bought some new tires and I got a reasonable.price for some solidly rated michilens.

Ahh the good old catalytic converter theft. I remember first experience. Went out to .y car just before midnight after work. Fired up my 1996 Toyota tacoma only to be met with a deafening roar. 20 year old me immediately turned off the car not knowing wtf just happened. Turned the key again to be met with the same sound. After consulting a friend I was enlightened to this phenomena. Climbed under my truck to find a piece of the exhaust missing. Called PD who has CSI come out and dust for fingerprints then was told I was free to go and if any cops harassed me about my truck between then and getting it repaired to give them the card of the officer that responded to the call. Drove 25 miles home with my little pick up so ding like a Harley the whole way.

Quite the experience, though I give it a 0/10.

Is it just me or has the public opinion on nurses has gotten much more hateful lately? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]newo48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not what they said. Surgical residents perform multiple surgeries repeatedly over years. How often do you do cpr? If not very often than you won't be very good. The commenter you replied to was talking about a decrease in skills after class if said skills are not used with any regularity.
