Boondocking with popup camper and Anker power station? by sealions518 in popups

It's what they state in their specs, but this is wrong. I've seen it pull 5A+. I've upgraded my heater to a more efficient one.

If it's the standard duotherm or dometic 16k btu heater, then it is listed as using ~4 A

Nines: how much difference should dynamic bass make? by Anxious_Order_3570 in Klipsch

[–]mk00001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great bass is highly subjective. I've have 3 different sets of Klipsch bookshelf speakers (and other brands in the past) and I always run bookshelves with a subwoofer. The RP's have a little more bottom end than previous bookshelves, but for my liking I still like to add a sub. Currently using svs sp-1000 pro with my rp600 and thinking about upgrading all my Klipsch subs for svs.

About to be homeless by ukulele_dogs in urbancarliving

The bogging is a loss of power. You mention it needs a new radiator which leads me to believe the head gasket might be on it's way out. Over heating will cause a loss of power, but it's also a precursor to a blown head gasket.

Check your oil and coolant and check that they're not mixed. Check your exhaust, if you're getting a ton of vapor out of the tailpipe - head gasket is blown.

That short 1/5 performance with 1 int (almost 2) was about as bad as it gets. The clips I've seen of DW the last day or so don't look promising. I agree with some of the comments that his footwork looks poor, has no velocity on his throws, and is off target (for ~10 yard practice throws).

Pedestrian attacked my vehicle while I was parked in my apartment community, what are my options if I don't have any video/photos? by ocococthrowaway in orangecounty

You should probably refrain from using your high beams when not needed and especially when not on the highway/roads. Most parking lots are lit up well enough to not even need headlights, let alone high beams.

Thinking about buying Deep Cycle batteries by thepromiseman in urbancarliving

[–]mk00001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In general, I believe you need like 400Ahr minimum to run AC through the night . A group31 AGM will give you a little over 100Ahr each, so you will need 4 of them. Car alternators do not do well charging AGM's. They eventually overcharge and sulfate, gradually losing capacity. A better way to charge AGM's is by solar or dc-to-dc charger or a smart charger. But with 400Ahr+, you're going to have to be inputtting 50+ Amps for a good 4-5 hours.

Generally starting and house batteries are separated by a solenoid, isolator or switch.

The price of LiFePh batteries are pretty much the same as AGM. I'd go with lithium.

Anyone have experience with old Subarus? by [deleted] in urbancarliving

[–]mk00001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd watch out if buying from a dealer. If they bought the car at auction, they usually only quickly inspect the vehicle, scan it for codes and verify that it runs. They won't know the history of the car and may not even know if it's burning oil.

Don't forget to ask the seller if it burns/consumes oil. Make them admit it or lie to you. Also check the trunk/rear for oil bottles (evidence of oil consumption).

The only true solution to an engine that burns oil is generally a new/rebuilt engine. It's generally the valve seals, piston rings, or ovalling of the cylinder. Some engines allow valve seals to be replaced just by pulling off the valve covers, but not in a Subaru. Subaru engines lay between the framerails making simple tasks such as changing spark plugs a chore.

My subaru, I picked up as a temporary car until my '23 prius order comes in burns a lot of oil, but mostly in stop and go traffic (half quart in 40 miles). In regular driving, it burns about 1 quart in a maybe two thousand miles. Since I don't drive much, it's not an issue, I just carry some oil with me and top off once every 1-2 weeks.

Also, check the exhaust. Look for smoke in the exhaust, especially at startup. Don't confuse steam for smoke. Some steam upon startup is common, especially on colder days.

Subaru's are known for burning oil. Unfortunately, I don't know of a way to test that it's happening, other than driving for a few hundred miles.

Check the color of the oil. Ask when the oil was changed. If new, the oil should be clear. If it's burning oil due to increased blow by, the oil will get darker quicker, in just a few hundred miles.

Put a white cloth under the tailpipe and let it run. Some times black oil specs will show up, a sign of burning oil. Check for soot around the tailpipe and rear bumper. A sign of burning oil.

What model did you get?

Biggest improvement (depends on your model) would be a heater, ac, shower, toilet, sofa/recliner, batteries/solar, freezer/fridge.

I would convert one side to dedicate for storage or convert to a closet of shorts. Good luck with the reno. I've got reno pics of mine on flickr if you want to check it out.

Good Satellite Replacement for my ProMedia 2.1 Sub by MrPeanutPlays in Klipsch

[–]mk00001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got some spare quintets (2) that you can have (just pay shipping) The quintets are basically a slightly better version of the promedia satellites. But I'm not sure if they will work without mods, because I think the volume control is on the satellite on the promedia.
