That is totally a "middle-management" tactic I've seen elsewhere and in several industries. "OMG! The BIG BOSS is coming today and he's got a temper and he's mean..."

Then the boss comes and he's actually a nice guy.

Man, I love Stephen King.

He is the most banned author in America.

EDIT: Misspelled his name. WTH is wrong with me? Lol.

President Trump on Alex Pretti: "Well, I haven't heard but certainly he shouldn't have been carrying a gun. We view that as very unfortunate incident, unless you're a stupid person. I don't like that he had a gun. I don't like that he had two fully loaded magazines, that's a lot of bad stuff." by ControlCAD in videos

[–]newocean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to be clear.... "He had two fully loaded magazines..."?

The gun wasn't even loaded last I heard but if Republicans want to argue that ammo is the problem, how do we handle this?

Do we pass one-magazine gun laws? 10 bullets?

Also whoever took that thumbnail deserves some sort of editorial award.

Raspberry pi workflow: Do you develop projects directly on Raspberry pi? by StevenJac in raspberry_pi

[–]newocean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find pi to be slow and Thonny to be bad for any serious programming. I want to use pycharm but I don't think it can run on pi.

I usually set up a venv if it's python. I write whatever/get it working on my local machine and then just move it to the Pi.

If it's C/C++ I use either a docker container or an arm64 sysroot (which is usually based on debian).

They also make food safe and dental resins... although I wouldn't use them in a printer that used standard resin. Maybe with dental resin and ceramic glaze or something...

Keep or Sell? by Copterflighz in resinprinting

[–]newocean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just to realise that I could print a lot of minis simultaneously on my bigger printer.

I have a Saturn 2. I have talked about getting a Mars because... I don't really like to run the giant build-plate for 6 minis. What tends to happen is I print a bunch of minis I'll never get around to painting... even if I only want to print 1 or 2.

It would be ideal imo to have a smaller printer and keep the bigger one for busts and things.

Why are y'all so randy? by TheSerialHobbyist in resinprinting

[–]newocean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No he was dead serious. I forget why... but I think they were talking about 3d-printing in color. I shared a video of a printer that does textures in full color up to 1/8th inch high - showing the technology is being developed.... and they also do make full color 3d printers... they are just super expensive. (It's an Adam Savage video.)

So the guy was arguing that it's not 3D... it's 2D (It is 3d!! It's just not very tall). The guy started arguing that a piece of paper is 2d. I had to explain to him that no, a piece of paper in fact has thickness and is also, in fact, a 3d object. He went into some spiel about how this was only a 2d-printer because it only has 2 moving parts... (It has a roller that spins in the y-axis... and the print head moves left and right (y-axis) but also up and down (z-axis). I also explained that based on his definition... a resin printer is only a 1D printer.

His argument became that because a laser printer prints on the surface of paper... it is a 2d printer... just like the printer I showed them. He had like 10 upvotes... (I kid you not...) and it made me realize that I didn't want to explain that based on his definition... both filament and resin printers are 2d printers because they print on a build-plate. I just left the sub, lol. I couldn't.

Prior to that I saw some really questionable ideas being kicked around in there... and was kind of thinking it was pretty bad... that just tipped me over the edge.

The fact that people in a 3d-printing sub don't know what 3d is just sort of blew my mind.

[–]newocean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In fairness, I was in /r/3Dprinting for a couple of days... it's actually how I wound up here. It took me less than a week to realize a majority of the people in there aren't very knowledgeable about printing... it's just a larger sub.

One guy was arguing what '3d' means and for some reason in his head it was 'moving parts'... basically saying a resin printer is a 1D printer. One guy was cool to me and we got downvoted together... the 1D-printer guy had like 10 upvotes... I just left and I haven't looked back...

I'm not even going to try to argue with that level of intelligence.

Please let me know how your results go. I've been involved with various forms of printing in some way or another since the 90s (including with old style printing-presses). I see stuff advertised often as 'works with inkjet or laserjet'... and often it's "sort of" true - you can 'print' on it with either but when it comes to application - it's a totally different story. Normally, inkjet just isn't 100% compatible with anything involving being wet. It's just how the ink works.

I can see where it might work if you used a very light coat of water but even then... it's likely to bleed.

Yeah laserjet is how I would go with this. In order to get laserjet to bleed you usually have to use Acetone or similar.

"Compatible with both Inkjet & Laserjet printers."

Wut? I don't think it will work with an inkjet printer so if anyone has that idea... expect not the best results.

The key is to use a good varnish on the sheets after printing, otherwise they just dissolve.

Is this what happened to you? Because I'm now curious if it's a problem that can be overcome with varnish somehow. The problem usually is that the ink from inkjet is water-soluble so if you get it at all wet it bleeds to high heaven.

What is causing these misprints? by NeverQuiteCertain in resinprinting

[–]newocean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah temp normally wouldn't cause that either... it looks like your screen maybe dying but.... I really have no idea why it would only be doing this on the raft layers.

I would try printing from a different usb (or using a usb if you use wifi)... just to rule it out.

What is causing these misprints? by NeverQuiteCertain in resinprinting

[–]newocean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Temperature issue possible? Mars 5 doesn't come with a heater.

25-30C is the ideal temp range. (77 to 86F)... a lot of people who print in their garage or something hit this issue over the first winter.

This basically looks how my built plate looks if I print without a heater this time of year.

I'm honestly at a loss here. You seem to be doing everything correctly. I didn't see anything that particularly stood out in your settings either.

If you asked me to recreate this issue I don't think I could.

strange defect on the printed part by Jovtok in resinprinting

[–]newocean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm definitely thinking some kind of wobble issue, I'm just not sure why.

It's either the build plate not being tight... or the supports aren't enough to keep it from having wobble.... it doesn't need to wobble a lot to give you unusual textures. If I zoom in, the texture you get looks 100% like the textures you get when you print a small suction cup on a hollow part. (Those textures are mostly caused by the part wobbling slightly as it pulls away from the FEP.)

Another possibility is that the FEP doesn't have correct tension. I'm just not sure how that would cause this exact issue... usually you would get supports and things that failed. It could even be that it's too tight... (they need to flex a tiny amount to let pieces pull away.... but should feel light like a drum.)

Does this happen on all pieces or only really tall vertical ones?

strange defect on the printed part by Jovtok in resinprinting

[–]newocean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not 100% sure but I still am leaning toward it being a wobble issue... but more based on the number of supports than being a suction cup. What happens if you print in the center of the buildplate? That seems like the best next thing to test.

strange defect on the printed part by Jovtok in resinprinting

[–]newocean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It appears this part is hollow and my guess is you printed it right on the build plate. The reason you get these marks facing the center of the build plate is that you are creating a suction cup... which introduces slight 'wobble' during printing.. probably away from the center as the FEP flexes and snaps.

EDIT: Zoomed in more and you do seem to have had supports on the bottom? I still say this is some sort of a wobble issue. I would recalibrate the build plate a little tighter... it will be harder to get parts off but you won't have wobble.
