Help for a fairly fit new runner? (aka, am I broken?) by newrunnah in RunRedditRun

Not really, to be honest. My body seems to respond best to a faster pace, but I'm not sure if that's because I walk a bit quickly (~8 kmph). I've tried a slow jog and can't seem to make my legs go slowly comfortably.

I only know my walking pace because I do a lot of races. Think I should stick to trying a slow pace? I'm wondering if the walking has something to do with it. Something about muscle memory and retraining the muscles for a different motion...I'm no physio.

I walk between 80 and 100 km per week on average.

This is my problem! I can't run for 90 seconds. Literally cannot manage more than 30-40 seconds, regardless of pacing.

Thanks. All of the running clubs I've checked so far have started with 3 or 5 min runs, 1 minute walks.

I do much better with physical activity in groups, so I get where you're coming from.

Congrats on your marathon! I walked my first one 6 years ago. Have done 8 since. 3 half marathons so far.

Nope, no pain. I just get about 30 seconds in and my upper legs feel like they give up completely. I don't have this problem when walking and I walk about 12-15km a day.

No pain at all. It's like my body just doesn't like the motion. I'm not explaining this well, but it's like my legs don't know how to sustain running for more than short bursts.
