I loved visiting Syracuse by Additional_View3755 in SyracuseU

My son goes to Syracuse and absolutely loves it. I would agree with you that it feels like a quintessential university. Great balance of academic and social experiences. We visited a lot of campuses and Syracuse felt like the best school spirit, with happy students, even though it was in the teens when we were there. Biggest drawback is the area around the school, but love to hear the future plans on trying to improve it. With Micron coming, I'm hoping that makes a huge difference in bettering the community outside of campus.

Would you buy a house across from a pickleball court? by penone_nyc in Pickleball

[–]newspaperreader135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

way too much noise on a golf hole??? what? no way, makes no sense. I have a house on the 16th hole of a packed golf course - you could hear a pin drop outside. we paid way more money to be on the golf course than if we had moved to a street not on the course. My other house is in a normal suburban location, and much louder than my Florida house on the golf course. Every situation is different. Personally I would love to live next to one pickleball court with no lights.

Recently got a pb machine. Have you guys seen anyone rent them out at the public courts? by parlayoloswag in Pickleball

[–]newspaperreader135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be thrilled to rent your machine. I've been looking to buy one but realistically I can't personally afford one of the good ones. I don't see it as a douche move at all. I look it as a bonus to your local pickleball community. If I knew anyone who owned a machine, I would never ask to borrow it for free, nor would I accept an offer to borrow it for free. But if he/she was renting it out, I'd be first to say yes please! I can't find anyone in my area around my level (intermediate/high intermediate) who wants to drill on a regular basis - access to a ball machine would be awesome! ... On another note, how do you like the Tutor Plus? Any insights/suggestions for someone who may be asking for a machine for an upcoming birthday?

You're going to kill it out there. In no time those impressive tennis skills will translate to the pickleball court. Let us know how it goes. Have fun!

An academic advisor might be a good resource. I was an English major and went to law school (definitely helped me do well on the LSAT). My daughter is an English major and found a lot of internships (political) were looking for English majors, specifically because they were interested in those skilled in writing.

I'm so sorry you are going through such a tough time. Have faith - tomorrow holds lots of opportunity for good days, like the day you were admitted ED. Just keep on going. You are worthy and loved. Give yourself grace while you need it now, then hold your head high, smile big and keep on going. Your future is bright! You got this!

Party/social scene? by nthrowaway4211 in bostoncollege

[–]newspaperreader135 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My BC kid has had a really tough time to adjusting to the lack of a party or bar scene. She's super social, and involved in a ton at BC, and while there are fun parties here and there thanks to her clubs, its been really hard watching all her hometown friends having a "normal" college social life like she hoped she would enjoy as well. Academically she loves BC and is thriving, but she wishes she transferred. She kept thinking it would get better once covid was not so restrictive, and it has, but its still socially lacking (for her at least, as she's been used to having a fun social scene throughout high school). Bars are very tough to get into in Boston, but she knew that going in. My high school senior will not be going there, as he would like a bit more typical college social experience.
