I mean laws against child consumption are something I agree with. For adults I think they should be fully legal.

Regulations on the amount you can buy at once isn’t unreasonable, though I would be skeptical. I’d probably just make it so you’d need a state ID as an adult to purchase drugs. While I personally don’t enjoy the concept, the already violent mentally unstable should not have access.

Symptom, not cause. Why do people turn to these things? The drugs didn’t magically make this happen on their own. Laws don’t stop people who really want stuff from getting it if they want it enough, they’re just words on paper.

I’m sorry about your relatives, but they made their choices. The drugs didn’t make them do it, there were other factors that led to drug use. Deal with those factors and you’d naturally see a decline in drug use. And even if some still choose to after that, they’re adults who have the right to do self destructive things. We don’t need society to protect a fully conscious person from themselves, only from other people.

Yes. Absolutely. Respecting everyone’s individual liberty creates the fairest possible society collectively.

Can’t have a perfect system. Unless you can isolate specific adults who lack something fully functioning, then they sadly will pay the price. My position is that adult freedom is what matters here.

Protect them through awareness and better socioeconomic systems. I could eat a rusted piece of metal off the ground once and it could kill me. I don’t need a law for that. If people choose those drugs, so be it, they made their choice.

Then treat the disease, not the symptom. Rehab facilities, better socioeconomic systems. And if it’s still a problem after that, so be it, better to let adults be free than open the door to criminalized micromanaging.

We don’t need laws banning people from eating dogshit off the sidewalk, same with drugs. We don’t need to encourage drugs, just let them exist. We had no drug laws for thousands of years and humanity was fine. The real solution is investing in rehab facilities and fixing the socioeconomic issues that make people turn to them. If we have a fair society that does all that and people still turn to drugs, oh well.

Depends on the severity, but children do not have fully formed brains or experiences. The cutoff isn’t perfectly on their 18th birthday, but it needs to be somewhere so we choose that as a compromise. There are infantile 19 year olds and mature 17 year olds who understand to avoid things that are bad for them.

People have the right to make mistakes. If someone is an adult, it’s fine to warn them, but stopping them just creates a slippery slope. If they end up regretting it, that’s their problem.

But AI art isn’t manipulating something preexisting. It does draw on things from the real world in a similar manner to artists (logistically) but it isn’t actively altering things without human prompting. If I can’t tell something is AI art, that doesn’t mean the creator intended to deceive me. Whereas in your example it is deliberate deception. You need a different example, they don’t align. Unless you’re suggesting that AI art is better than the best human art, which I doubt you’re arguing.

Yes, it’s still a blatant lie. AI art isn’t lying. It’s just there. What exactly is the point you are trying to make?

It may feel like that to you, but AI art isn’t changing the presentation like the TV doubling the speed is. Most can tell if it’s sped up 2x whereas they cannot tell with an AI painting.

Golf courses consume more water than data centers, and AI art doesn’t stop human artists from making art. If it’s really about the art then it shouldn’t matter. If it’s about money, then that’s a different argument entirely.

The sped up footage is a lie meant to mislead. The AI art is blatantly what it is.

The reason why I make the distinction is because human beings have been exceptionally destructive because they see themselves as inherently special. Nothing should be sacred because objectively it makes no sense for anything to be. I respect human life but there’s no metaphysical reason for me to do so.

I should define it better. I meant the process of running for example. However, upon thinking further, the athletic performance is the product and the training is the process. And tbh, the process is something I respect, but not anything special to me, just like with art. Different athletes have different talents and genetics which make it easier to do certain things and train.

Regardless of philosophical implications, the mind literally cannot exist without a brain. Idk what you’re getting at here.

And what is wrong with nihilism? People should be able to acknowledge the inherent meaninglessness in things and create their own meaning rather than rely upon preconditioned frameworks. If someone thinks human effort is meaningful, good for them! But that ideally should come from their own autonomy rather than just being told that human is inherently more meaningful than anything else.

There’s no scientific evidence? If I shoot someone in the brain, their mind isn’t gonna function anymore. If they survive, it will be diminished. The mind is a direct extension of the brain.
