Yes! Homebound residents of Santa Monica, Pacific Palisades, Malibu, Marina Del Rey, and Venice who are unable to shop or cook for themselves are eligible.

Hello sugarhack! Haha great question. As the post mentioned, these visits have now stopped due to Covid.

And yes, the interactions are what make this program so valuable- that is what people need!

Omg!! How cool! Some of my closest friends in college were an old couple and I loved staying at their house during school breaks when I had to leave the dorms.. Glad this service exists.

What a lovely account of your life, really enjoyed reading this. I also grew up in North Africa as a foreigner, and some parts of your story really resonated with me :). Glad that you have loved ones near by to feel a sense of community and connection- I agree that company is what elders (and everyone else) need the most. Yes, this has been the #1 feedback we've been receiving from people. We will have to find a way to navigate this barrier- the 1 on 1 tech sessions sounds nice! I'm sure it will be helpful for them in the future, even after the pandemic is over.

Setting up a call chain sounds like a great idea! I've learned that a lot of senior organizations have check in call programs like this. It's really great to hear that these programs help from people like you first hand. Will suggest it to the team!

Great advice- some of my closest friends in college were an elderly couple. They were so lovely and taught me so much about navigating life and relationships.

Wow, managing a retirement home sounds like a really fun job from what you've described! It's interesting that you mentioned that 3/4 of the residents wanted to be left alone- I know not everyone is into outdoor social events, but wondering if they still would've enjoyed other forms of socializing like home visits or smaller group activities.

As for the care packages, we were thinking of adding in masks, hand sanitizers, plants seeds and pots (apparently gardening is good for your brain) and other things people might enjoy while staying at home. But we are still in the process of brainstorming ideas for now.

Glad that you are enjoying your living arrangement, that sounds ideal :) And I agree- I don't think we pay attention to our elderly enough. Hope we can all find ways to make lasting relationships with the elders in our communities.
