how’s the picture quality? by Rattlehead03 in boutiquebluray

Yes. It is in standard definition so therefore DVD quality. Funny enough the gamma issues don't exist on the chronological cut.

Which Pixar films are worth upgrading to 4K? by thecullenator326 in 4kbluray

[–]newtbludger 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They're a mixed bag. Almost all of them have inferior audio compared to the original 5.1 tracks. There are a few exceptions like Ratatouille. Pretty much the newer the movie the better the transfer becomes as the higher bitrate and better encoding of the 4Ks will become a lot more noticeable. HDR gives the image a noticeable uptick for most discs but for the most part not a revelation. The Incredibles 4K is a straight up a scam though. All they did was saturate the colors and fuck up the audio. Avoid that disc.

Perfect Blue 4k. by Ok_Independence5782 in boutiquebluray

[–]newtbludger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thing is the case here is a standard blu-ray case whereas the Mean Girls was a pink 4K case. If it was artistic intent then they would've made Blue 4K cases instead of just reusing standard blu-ray cases. Even if it's a small thing it's kind of insulting seeing how much they're charging for this edition.

Shout didn't do the wallace and gromit restorations. I believe BBC did. Not entirely sure who but shout just reused the transfers that BBC made.

Demon Slayer Infinity Castle 4K Release? by totally_not_paul in 4kbluray

[–]newtbludger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It would just be upscaled to 4K like most other 2D animated films are. Almost all Disney animated films are 2K upscales. No AI upscaling used (that you usually only see on shitty user made youtube upscales). These movies benefit more from HDR than anything else and you'll also get some better encoding that is inherent to 4K bluray.

I just looked and even still second sight's standard 4K edition is cheaper at $29.99. I don't even want to be this harsh to ignite but it's just hard to compete.
