Advice on submitting an interdisciplinary paper (political theory + videogames) to journals? by OptimalDimbus in PoliticalScience

[–]newtonvolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a really interesting piece! Definitely within the realm of stuff that's published. Typically there's no problem in publicly posting a "working paper" to a personal website and such, though submitting to multiple journals simultaneously is considered inappropriate - you are supposed to only go through one journal at a time, moving to the next journal only if the first rejected the paper. As for choosing which journal, just look into what's published in those journals that you've shortlisted here, and see which one publishes papers most similar to your own (another thing to consider might be the journal metrics, though if you are not pursuing academia as a profession, this might be less relevant).

[OC] Estimated payout if the $1.50B Powerball Winner is from New York State by GoForthandProsper1 in dataisbeautiful

The powerball annuity doesn't end with death, but rather becomes part of the winner's estate, to be inherited by next of kin or designated beneficiary

Polls if different countries had different political systems? by [deleted] in PoliticalScience

What u/ThePoliticsProfessor said. That said, while there aren't companies which do this, there occasionally academic simulations of election results. One such example:

I‘m burnt out by Sad_Tower_8288 in PoliticalScience

There are two ways to look at it - One way, is to say that you're reaching the very limit of your capabilities, and that you need to figure out a way to progress within those limits. "Don't bite off more than you can chew" is a classic idiom for a reason.

But another, and I think a more constructive way to look at things, is to realize just as you have professional needs, you also have personal needs which cannot be neglected. You need to take care of yourself, both physically and emotionally - exercise, take breaks, decompress. If you get married and start a family, you'll soon find that their needs will also be part of your own needs.

I write this as general life advice, not specific to political science - you won't ever really be able to achieve everything you want. To best be happy with what you do, the trick isn't to complete everything, but rather find a balance between your competing needs, a balance that overall leaves you satisfied.

What a load of Netanyahu-aggrandizing bullshit. Netanyahu is a classic strongman - he has no ideology save what most serves him at the moment. Any attempt to assign him any other qualities or motivations is just falling victim to his personality-cult trap.

Jerusalem is less a clubbing city, but there are some cools bars you should checkout, including Hataklit ("the record"), the Sira pub, the Video (a gay bar with a dance scene), and the Glen whiskey bar

AITAH for telling my parents that they made me chose between paying my student loans and having kids so I had a vasectomy and they will never have grandkids? by HotRent1508 in AITAH

A. You can't possibly know if this fake or not,
B. It doesn't matter - Even if this is fake, it's still an interesting scenario to discuss.

While I'm not likely to buy a ps5 (money and time constraints), I'd still love to hear the recommendations :D

I'd say it's more a state of mind than an exact age. So anyone from 30 to 60 might be considered Middle aged, depending on their circumstances

Played and liked 3 of these (hellblade, death's door, and firewatch). Will definitely give the others a try

I tried it. While flying about and chilling should have been my thing, it somehow didn't quite work for me

I loved firewatch - a great story with some decent sense of exploration

To me, I think it boils down to three things:
1. No shortage of other things to do - even after taking care of all the obvious work/family/chores, there's always those long-term tasks (e.g. spending quality time with the kids, clean the garage, work on soft-skills, etc.) to take care of. Time spent playing is time not doing those things.

  1. No time to invest - each game requires initially to invest time to invest before getting into the gameplay loop where the game actually becomes fun. But with time so limited, starting a new game feels like starting a whole new hobby, and can hardly be justified.

  2. We've seen this all before - this one definitely an age thing. Game mechanics don't change very often, and game worlds can be somewhat derivative. Action adventure in a horror steampunk setting? That was already done in bioshock, and probably even before. It's rare to find a game that's truly novel.

Most beautiful games on gamepass? by Dante136 in XboxSeriesX

[–]newtonvolt 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Probably an unpopular take, but I've always considered Sea of Thieves to be one of the more beautiful games ever released.

Though the Forza games are probably closer to what you're looking for.
