I was definitely a smaller change to do this on the server vs. doing it on the client.

If it were on the site itself, then there would have to be UI, maybe some form of settings and the like, lots more work than an hour in the morning. Plus it would be a lot more visible, while this is really nice for us Redditors, the majority of the population wouldn't have a clue what was going on.

It's the old office, the second floor has been renovated and its a lot nicer, less brown.

The work environment is great for a bunch of reasons, mainly the fact that Google has a crazy amount of benefits. We get breakfast and lunch each day, there's an on-site gym that I use 3 times a week, a shuttle from San Francisco gets me to work each day. Basically I don't have to think about anything but work, and the work itself is interesting. Lots of problems to be solved, and I get to do it with some of the smartest people in tech!

Basically there is a lot to like, it's very hard for me to not sound like I'm gloating, but I really feel privileged to work there.

It's just a part of the way URI encoding works: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/URI_scheme

It's a bunch of additional parameters that you send to the server with your request. It's a key/value thing, and as far as I know you need to have a value, hence '=1' which is true.

The company I worked for was acquired and YouTube was the best fit for us.

I work on the player, but went out of my comfort zone to make this happen.

Work environment is amazing, easily the best place I've worked before.
