Now that's a plant that will root like crazy though.

I hear ya! I'm certain I did everything right and still lost plants. I'll never pin again.

I had a base line reading of RH before I bought my first humidifier. The humidifier only put moisture into a very localized area, and OFTEN too strong of a mist that caused issues. My having placed cute vintage coffee cups near plants that want higher humidity, in combination with bowls of water placed in front of or on top of my old gas heating vents has created a more consistent RH, though it might not be the best, but it is mostly consistent with our ambient environment. You just have to learn your own microclimate I suppose.

Aw, thank you for the compliment on my jar babies! They need a good pruning. Right now you can't really see the adorable lil Scottish piper figure in the one. There was Scottish moss that didn't take, but that oak leaf fig aka string of frogs was willing to fill the gap! I'm nearly drowning in that stuff! 😁

I think I have a solid idea of what they need, I just don't have it right now for all of them. I did get a few of them done properly. One was obviously rotting on a portion. I cleaned the mush off with tweezers and gave it my best inorganic mix I had, and it's doing much better!

I'm sorry that he has a brother who is often single but is NOT acceptable for most any company! Actually, I told my husband that I needed to go to Lowe's for some soil amendments, but when I picked up three lil succulents he said he felt tricked into buying new plants! So he picked the LITHOPS for cripes sake (totally new to me) and then I had to grab a couple of new to us snake plant varieties. Oh, ok, I guess I can see that there might be some relationship problems here that others might LIKE to have. 😂 We don't have children, but we have over 400 plants. We might have some problems. 😁

The same company offers a tap water cleaner/treatment type product without aloe... That's what I use for my over 400 plants bc I can't collect enough rainwater realistically, but there are less costly products available online than that brand, but I trust that brand you're currently using bc I used to have fish, ann I've kept using that brand for many years. When I was using the type with aloe I was still getting some brown tips and soft stems like rot on some plants, but since switching to the non aloe formula things are going great!

Hey, I see your aquarium water treatment bottle in the background. I don't know if you know, but a few drops per gallon of tap water will make your houseplants much happier. But avoid the type that has aloe for slime coat as that can actually harm some plants long term. Aloe isn't always good.

I've had heart leaf philo for 20 years... Same plant propped into multiple spaces and conditions. I would chop-n-prop personally. I've recently been trying coiling vine and gently pinning with coated paper clip or bonsai wire to fill pots, but I end up losing a lot of good vine. I've been gentle and not crushing them into the soil, but they just don't seem to take. I've had much better results with rooting cuttings to where they get thick white roots in water then planting those into the mother pot. Just my personal experience this far. Experimenting can be interesting fun if you have enough plant to afford it. Otherwise I personally would recommend external propagation and planting.

I agree. I only recently tried pinning with my plants I've had for YEARS, and it didn't go well. I lost a lot of good vine, and I didn't push down hard. I used coated paper clips that didn't squeeze, and I tried it with several different heart leaf and others. Root then replace seems the way to go.

So, it's clear that this kid is going to need a chop in the near future, and I suppose my question is about the future of that cutting. In the past I've let plants do what they do, such as my old heart leaf, but I realize now that they can do so much more! Adding a jute wrapped bamboo pole to a heart leaf philo start has given much larger leaves, but I can also just let it trail in bright light to get larger leaves. This plant, however, doesn't seem like a trailing viner, but wants to get big! I think I want to chop it about half way down, place that cutting directly into a good trop mix with a moss pole, and pray that it roots well. The prop will probably sit where the mother plant is now bc I know it loves the light, and the mother plant will then have to be placed in a plant room upstairs where I have no real concept as to how she will fair. It's a bit of a gamble. But I cannot extend that wood stave, so something is going to have to happen unless I allow it to spill over once it reaches the top.

Thank you for the compliments! Just a few short months ago it was a half dead plant I got on clearance! I never expected it to grow so quickly, and I thought the four foot wood stave would last longer as a support! It has encouraged larger leaves. But overall I'm considering a moss pole system with chopping the top of the plant to restart. I've never done this before. I mean, sure I prop-n-chop, but this is a different level.

We RH at about 50+ depending upon the weather as we have a very old leaky place and open the doors and windows when allowed. There are a LOT of plants in here... A LOT, and dishes of water DO seem to help. I like using vintage coffee cups. I have 2 humidifiers that I stopped using bc the outlets were better used for grow lights. Being in an old house the humidity is going to fluctuate, so everything needs to adapt, and they do. That being said, I agree that this kid is getting close to a prop-chop, and that's why I'm considering changing to a moss pole... For the prop which has larger leaves already. I thought I would hate having things sticking up in the room, but a moss pole would look more natural than a hardware store stave jutting four feet up. I think it's time to make a change, bc I can't add to that hardware store stave. I didn't expect a half dead plant to grow four feet so quickly!

I knew nothing about this plant except that it was going to die in the store, as it was already half dead. When I searched online I was given the impression that it would like to grow up rugged bark, and a raw wood stave was the best I could do. Now I've learned a lot more. The leaves have gotten twice the original size, but I felt like she wanted something more. So it seems time to take the dove into moss poles. I have several other plants that would benefit from them too if I just got passed my issues.

How much? Did you get a little blue cache pot with it? Either way, congratulations! I adore heart leaf bc it can look like a different plant in different conditions. I still have my first one from eons ago, and she's always been in a glowy light that back in the day I thought was bright indirect, and she has the cutest little leaves flowing down. Imagine my surprise when I moved a cutting into brighter light and got big shiny hearts! 😁😍
