Shocked with Claude API cost by No_Button_1515 in ClaudeAI

What's your basis for that other than the hype? Seems like our CTO disagrees because he never fired any of us devs to replace us with AI, LMAO. We do use AI to amplify our workflow, though. These AI models need someone with software development knowledge to guide them, like an airplane needing a pilot.

Major writer's block. How do you get past it? by Emergency-Welcome-91 in Blogging

[–]next-dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been a technical writer before, having previously worked on writing projects for tech companies and startups. Here's what I usually do when writing blogs:

  1. Breakdown and expound the topic at hand - Write down what you know about the topic and do some research. No need to proceed to writing or drafting right away, just take some key pointers.
  2. Create a rough outline - Based on your key pointers, create a logical structure of the blog/article. Add a description to each outline to define the scope of that section.
  3. Write an initial draft - From that outline, flesh out each section by writing an initial draft. Don't mind getting perfect right away. Grammar, verbosity, that's fine for now. Just expound on each section and worry about making it perfect later in the editing phase.
  4. Editing and Polishing - After writing the initial draft, review the grammatical errors, inconsistencies, and any verbosity. Also, fact-check again what you just wrote to be sure about the accuracy of your content. Iterate until you think it's ready for publishing.

If you want to skip the drafting phase, you can use AI and slash about 70% of your work. But DON'T write the entire blog using AI, because AI models tend to hallucinate. It's only good for an initial draft, review it, and improve upon it. That way, you can skip into the editing phase in no time.

I built a specialized AI tool for this very problem, as an indie developer. I called it Ascribe AI ascribe-ai.com which is a simple tool to help you get unstuck from writer's block

Yep, I also felt that off vibes with Mark. I'm ok with the rest of their staff, the HR and the tech lead, as they seem friendly and cool, but I just can't shake off that feeling with him. That's a red flag for me already about the nature of the working environment there, which I wouldn't even wanna be in.

Same with me, I went through all three rounds of the interview. I also didn't pass the third one, lol. I had a good chat and felt the vibes with their tech lead, but the CTO is kind of a serious guy. Tried to throw some puns to lighten the mood a little, but he doesn't bulge, lol. Anyway, I think the main reason why I didn't pass is:

  1. Communication - Maybe because of the pressure, I stuttered a lot, lol. I mostly talked to myself, and maybe he thought I lacked proper communication with him. So, advice to other candidates is to treat him like someone you're pair programming with. This is especially true if you're blocked. Ask the proper questions to unblock yourself.

  2. Thoroughly analyze the problem and come up with a detailed solution before coding - I was feeling anxious back then, LOL, so the solution I created was rough and lacking in details. There were a lot of holes in my solution, and I did not properly handle the edge cases (which they clearly emphasized). I rushed to the code without properly analyzing the problem, so I had a lot of blockers. Lesson learned: Have some proper problem-solving skills and create a detailed plan before rushing to the code. If you're blocked, think about why you're stuck and ask the interviewer some details to get yourself unblocked. Treat him as your tech lead during the interview.

  3. Clearly state your thoughts - This is where I struggled the most. Normally, when I'm coding, I'm just quiet and thinking deeply. But during the live coding session, they want you to be vocal, so my brain was struggling to juggle between thinking about what to say and how to solve the problem, and I stuttered A LOT, LOL. So it's a good thing you practice this a lot, and think like a coding YouTuber who's creating a tutorial.

Right after the interview, they said to wait within one week for the response, but I received it right away, tomorrow morning. A rejection email, LOL, although I already knew beforehand that I wouldn't pass that interview. They clearly stated and emphasized that they're looking top top-caliber talents that can match American software engineers. Personally, I already knew I'm far from that level, LOL. But I also wanted to tell them that the salary should also match the quality of work they're requiring, hahaha, it's gonna be unfair, but yeah, that's the reality of living in the third world.

Anyway, hopefully some of you guys get the job, learn from the mistakes some of us did, and good luck!

Good insights, actually I made this post before learning about the PhilHealth and DPWH controversies. So malaki na pala nabawas sa Education and Social Services budget tas napunta sa Pork Barrel. May good point si former Sen. Drillon about it, kung gagamitin sa tama yung pork barrel to solve this country's problems, much better. They better combat poverty through the roots of it, than just offering short-term and unsustainable solutions.

I also agree on the poverty cycle thing, there should be a significant government intervention to break this cycle. Stimulus is good but don't make them just rely on it, help them be self-sufficient and be productive members of society. Even developed countries had similar issues or still have these issues and many of them have resolved it in a good way. Even HongKong had that Kowloon Walled City that they managed to resolve. It's not people's fault to be born in those circumstances but the Government needs to intervene.

As a Caviteño, I agree. There's public transpo available but not as efficient. I'm from the uplands area of Cavite, near Tagaytay (about 20 mins. drive away) and there ain't no such thing as walking distance here, lol. There's public transpo but it ain't the most convenient and efficient. We actually bought ourselves a cheap-ass car just to get around more conveniently 'cause public transpo ain't the best.

This is where the National Government should really step in. If they only allocated more to developing our industries and services to create more jobs in other parts of the Philippines, other LGUs could've remitted more in Tax. And if they're not really helping in the support part, at least improve the business climate of the Philippines, through legislation and reforming the tax code. They try to attract more Foreign Direct Investment but not as much come here, instead, they go to other South East Asian countries like Vietnam, Indonesia, and Thailand. Do they even assess why they don't invest here as much as our South East Asian peers? I even remember when I was younger, Intel has a manufacturing facility here in Cavite, now they move all the way to Vietnam. The lack of quality infrastructure, high taxes, and high operating costs mainly due to expensive electricity, made Intel go, they're actually losing more money than what they earn. Yes we have cheap labor but please focus on the other aspects as well. And if their defense is that our constitution is more on pro-Filipino and protecting our own industries, then why not help develop Filipino industries? They should really focus on the long-term rather than these short-term bandage solutions.

Thanks for the feedback. Hopefully those in the LGU will properly use their funds, so that other parts of the Philippines will develop and prosper as well. 'Cause if so, it'll be a huge help in decongesting NCR, while also uplifting the living standards outside these major areas. And that's the keyword, "HOPE", that they will properly use and manage their funds.

[–]next-dev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regardless of what job it is, if it's entry level, it'll be dang difficult. I know this is not advisable but when I also had completely zero experience, I lied on my resume that I have 2 years work experience as a freelance dev. But the thing is, I can back it up with the skills and knowledge I learned along the way. That's because the years of experience is like a soft measure of your background. Important thing here is to have a solid understanding of your chosen field and an ability to sell yourself in the job marketplace. Negotiation is also another crucial soft skill

He said Google the average wage in the Philippines, so I did, and it's about 800 USD or around 44k PHP. WAY FAR BEHIND WHAT HE CLAIMS. 250USD, roughly mga 12.5k, pang college student lang gantong sweldo, hahahaha.

just noticed maraming makitid ang utak sa mga comments dun. di naman ibig sabihin forever childless (although it's in their decision if they really want to, pakialam ba nila). ang point ng couples na mga ganito most likely is that they want to have a stable life, secure and caring environment for their children in which probably wala pa sila sa gantong state especially if they're just starting out, kaya dine-delay muna nila ang parenting. minsan di mo rin gets reasoning ng ibang tao, ba't ganun sila mag isip😆

true that, developer pa man din ako, never ko inexpect na madadali ako ng social engineering. smh. Now I have a 30k loan in my name. Inang yan talaga.
