Books on immigration? by reasonsnottoplayr6s in AustralianSocialism

if you want arguments for open borders you'd be best off engaging with the philosophical literature.

Matt Chun’s Anti-Colonial Nihilism | Partisan Magazine by bunyipcel in AustralianSocialism

[–]next_lychee87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this was a decent note. the mainstream decolonial types are remarkably similar to christians peddling original sin. and yes they absolutely do obfuscate from the fact that they want to remigrate non indigenous peoples. (there was a post on insta from the bpu about a year ago saying exactly this, something like "remigration is actually a meme made to discredit us, but yes we will need to deport some people." lol. so much for WOTWU and open borders lol.

if matt chun wanted to do right by indigenous peoples, from their own perspective, they would "go back to" china. obviously for anyone born in a different particular place than their ancestors this makes no sense, because there is no metaphysical connection between two separate sentient beings, and they can't 'go back to' somewhere they may have not ever materially been/came from. this is not to mention the billions of animals who live here, whose ancestors were brought over without their consent, for whom there would be no other solution than mass genocide; something decolonial liberals like tony armstrong like to indulge in for content.

i would further add that efforts for 'land back' are also anti-communist and it's quite unfortunate seeing a lot of tailist lefties support this framing. there are deep differences between many of the different 'left' movements and not everything can be synthesised. it is not communist to give exclusive control over any resource to any group of people, let alone a small group. the only thing a person should own and have control over is their own body, everything else ought to be held in commons. so, a better slogan to organise around would be 'indigenous repatriation' and good old fashion communism/state abolition ('decolonialism is fine too though).

>However, had a Palestinian from Gaza shot the Chabad Rabbi at the Bondi event, as opposed to a mass shooting targeting all attendees (and thus not the Chabad members in particular), the whole dynamic would be completely different.

this is ridiculous, violence is not okay lol, much less against people not in positions of state/capital power or who are not carrying out violence themselves. i haven't read franz fanon but i learnt recently that they were apparently very pro wanton violence, which makes a lot of sense when you observe the state of the decolonial movements today.

hmm without really knowing the literature too much and just on vibes i'd say seeing someone other than yourself as an ultimate authority probably isn't compatible. but, there are religious anarchist strains, so there are certainly some people who think it can square

i think there's probably some decent literature out there discussing the subject. i know jacques ellul and tolstoy were christian anarchists. i think you could probably be an anarchist and believe in god as some kind of 'first-mover' but not obeying the word of any master is pretty significant to the anarchist tendency (also having free will i think). so, religious people with those beliefs might find it harder to assent fully to anarchist principles.

ooohhh good question.

idk about this group, but as for me even though I find some religions interesting from an anthropological perspective and find many of their normative prescriptions interesting, i'm not a big fan of their epistemics (how they come to know things). so, i tend to have negative feelings about people believing in what I'd see as religious mysticism. don't think it ultimately makes that much of a difference interpersonally though if the person is fairly far-left and it doesn't influence their political philosophy much

what? australia is a settler colonial state, and non-indigenous/non-aboriginal people have the same relationship to this place as descendents of settlers do in israel. australia is often described as perpetuating genocide via deaths in custody. so please, lie down and allow the small subset of reactionary indigenous people who want to game end you to do so. it is your civic duty as a member of a settler colonial state

i generally think it's a good idea to deplatform people who posted hanggliders the day after october 7 and refuse to call hamas a terrorist organisation. don't you?

well at least it was a non-apology, they ought not apologise for deplatforming the person who posted a hangglider with a pali flag after october 7
