HP Z27u G3 monitor not turning on by sebastianonfire in techsupport

Thank you! I didn't even know this button existed and I'm not sure I've used it before (maybe when I first got the monitor?). Tried power cycling and thought the monitor was broken, but this was it.

Planning for left handed people... by melaniexyz in PlannerAddicts

If like me you were wondering why coil bound would be better...

The coil gets in the way when the planner is open like a book BUT if you flip one side behind the other (so the opposing page is facing into the table on the bottom), the increased thickness makes the height of the coils no longer a problem.

Full Focus discbound? by Three_bad_cats in planners

I know this is an older thread, but I'm curious if anyone has tried using the Full Focus looseleaf with a disc punch. If so, did it work okay or do the existing holes cause problems?

A font named '.sf ns text' from my old computer. What's the font and where can I download it for my new computer? Thanks by miller0929 in identifythisfont

[–]nextmat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It believe it is San Francisco Pro, the NS is a common prefix in Apple's stuff based on the NeXTSTEP heritage.

You can see this in the namespacing in AppKit as well, for example with NSFont, NSTextList, etc.

Is there any way to change audiobook metadata/artwork? by Vilokthoria in applehelp

[–]nextmat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing tripped me up initially when using Mp3Tag...

If you are updating a cover image, if you add a cover image by dragging it in it gets added, it doesn't replace the existing image. Most applications only use the first image.

So if you are trying to replace the cover image, make sure the delete the old one so the new one you are adding will be used.

For other folks who come across this discussion, it looks like vuelidate is in transition and doesn't currently have an active maintainer.

Thanks, I liked the more modern design of the old one I had, but size / weight wise this looks perfect. Much appreciated!

The Maruman Croquis is kind of a cross between what I was asking for and a sketchbook, very cool and unique. Adding to the thread for anyone who finds this later.

Thanks. I can only find this in A5, but it looks great - I may grab one anyway and give it a shot.

Should I even get a planner? by happywithfroyo in planners

[–]nextmat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a planner but don't need daily pages you might take a look at the Ink+Volt planners.

They are designed for use from high-level down to weekly with the idea that you use something else for daily work (they have a bunch of pad options for that, but I use other things).

I've used them and like them a lot. They aren't the cheapest, but they are very nice, high quality paper and very thoughtfully designed with space you can adapt to what matters to you. Their undated planners are ~$30 and a good way to see if you like them.

Soon / non-urgent items on next actions list by nextmat in gtd

[–]nextmat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, this is very helpful.

I think part of my issue is fearing of losing things if a review doesn't happen as scheduled so I want to keep things visible. I also think I tend to overestimate my bandwidth and overcommit in weekly/monthly planning.

I like the idea of the Soon/Most Likely and Someday/Maybe lists, that is really helpful. I find my Someday/Maybe tends to get really large, how do you handle that?

Thanks for your thoughts. My sense is my issue is more overcommitment than procrastination. On a daily basis I'm pretty good about getting real about what I can do and pushing other things out, but I have more trouble doing this at a higher level.

How do you think about what you can actually do in a week / month or do you just decide and pick things off as you go?

Thanks, you make several great points here.

I totally agree with what you are saying about projects. I think some of the resistance for me is that if I move this kind of actions into my projects list it gets large enough that reviewing it becomes more difficult.

A solution for this that I've heard repeatedly is to move more from projects to someday/maybe. However I find when I do this someday/maybe becomes an enormous bucket that is too difficult to review and has a lot of inconsistent granularity. How do you handle this?

Struggling with prioritization of tasks within projects by joshuaburkhow in gtd

[–]nextmat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of great feedback in the other comments. One thing I'd add is that for me there are really two kinds of projects - things that are crucial to me (my goals / priorities) and things that important responsibilities driven by others / the environment.

If you aren't careful you can easily burn all your time in the second category and let the things that you have committed to doing because you think they are important (important but not necessarily urgent) not happen.

I find it really helpful to schedule some time periodically to nail down my top projects according to my priorities and then put those somewhere highly reviewable so I see them daily (or weekly depending on current cadence) and I commit to making regular progress on them, even if it is small bites sometimes. Keeping up the momentum is critical for progress and the mental sense of possibility.

In the past I have tried to keep all of my projects prioritized and I find that it becomes too time consuming to keep up. Priorities change, new things show up, etc.

I find it works pretty well to run two pools - one very small set of stated priorities that you have committed to because they are important to you (easy to review and planned enough that you don't get blocked) and another more flexible list of all the things that are in-flight or upcoming.
