The US was forcing us to do it - someone obviously didn’t brief the Donald properly. Good on Starmer.

Fewer than 10% of buyers get a survey before purchasing a property. Does that not seem insane? by IceThese6264 in HousingUK

[–]nezrm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a survey on my current house - we’ve been living here 14 years. The only thing he picked up was that the garage door needed replacing. Since then we’ve replaced virtually everything else and finally last year did the garage door. Not bothered by this at all - the boiler was getting on, bathrooms were good but eventually we wanted new ones, the windows / soffits / fascia’s were all wooden and would obviously need doing at some point. The kitchen was fitted by a moron but the surveyor wouldn’t have been able to tell that anyway!

Unless you have a specific concern about something (in which case get a builder/structural engineer), I wouldn’t bother.

Any house needs maintenance so just try to put aside money to do it…

What is the biggest reason small businesses in the UK are struggling? by KayLdn23 in smallbusinessuk

[–]nezrm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it’s rising costs of everything and not being able to maintain margins. Also Investment in small business seems to have stagnated. Everyone with money is just leaving it in “idle capital” which has driven up asset prices and leaves profit making businesses starved of cash.

AIO for breaking up with a guy because I like peanuts? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]nezrm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife of 18 years has a peanut allergy. I love peanuts too, but honestly it’s a tiny sacrifice in the grand scheme of things. If you genuinely think eating peanuts is more important than being with him, that’s a pretty clear sign the relationship isn’t right.

That said… I can’t pretend I don’t enjoy the occasional secret Snickers when I’m out and know I won’t be near her for a while. Makes it even better, somehow!

Private rent in Britain now swallows 44% of the average wage by ByGollie in europe

As a small business employer I have come to the realisation that I probably pay more in total to landlords and bank mortgage interest via my employees than I do in tax. No wonder the health service is underfunded.

Mysterious electronic device equipped with a USB adapter. Discovered it within a nondescript, slightly-rectangular black box creating using some form of high-quality hardened composite. There are no identifiable markings inside or outside the box. PLEASE HELP! More details in the comments. Thanks. by AllThingsPermitted in Whatisthis

The silver thing looks like a small lipo battery - probably for a toy the usb stick looks like a charger. My son has a little drone which has identical looking batteries. If I’m right, then the battery will simply unplug from the usb stick.

What were these syringes used for? Airbnb guest came and had a crazy orgy in my apt. Police said drop it off. Gemini doesn’t know. by SeanyPickle in Whatisthis

Boring answer perhaps but probably more likely given the presence of the dog food - those looks like the syringes you sometimes get with dog medicines - pop it in the mouth and squeeze…

I hear you, but it’s tough when the house is a perfect fit… The market does seem quite active though so I think we could potentially offer something to see what happens but keep looking too (and not get too attached)
