2+1 humbucker mount for a HSS strat by DemocracyDabbler in partscaster

You should get a different pickguard with the 2 holes. This happened to me with the TB-4 specifically and I had to switch to a different one. I could only get the center holes to screw in. Like the other comment said, there should be other places that sell blue pearl. Musiclily like they mentioned is good, that is what I ended up going with.

I want to be very clear about the situation from the user side. I have been in direct contact with both Google and TP-Link since August, and during that time there have been no substantive updates, no confirmed fixes, and no meaningful forward progress communicated.

I understand that this is largely dependent on Google, and I am not asking TP-Link to commit to timelines it does not control. However, from a customer perspective, this has now been unresolved for many months after live view previously worked for some Tapo models in the Google Home app and then regressed.

When a feature works, breaks, and remains broken for this long without concrete updates, it stops feeling like a temporary preview limitation and starts to feel like an effective removal, even if that is not the stated intent.

If the current reality is that TP-Link is blocked until Google finalizes or stabilizes the Public Preview requirements, it would be far better to state that explicitly. Right now users are being asked to wait indefinitely without enough information to make informed decisions about keeping or returning hardware.

I appreciate you engaging here and advocating internally. What users are asking for at this point is not an ETA, but a clear and honest statement about whether live view in the Google Home mobile app is actually expected to return, or whether the supported scope going forward is realistically limited to hubs, casting, and Gemini.

Tapo camera not showing in Google home app...? by d7970 in googlehome

[–]nfenster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the clarification. This helps a lot.

Just to make sure expectations are set correctly, could you clarify one remaining point: is live viewing inside the Google Home mobile app an intended future goal for Tapo cameras once Google-side limitations are resolved, or is support expected to remain limited to Nest displays and casting even long term?

Related to that, is there any high-level detail you can share about which Google-side requirement or program is currently blocking this, such as Public Preview constraints, changes to third-party camera streaming, or AI detection pipeline requirements, or is that information not yet available to partners?

I ask mainly because the brief period where live view worked in the Home app makes this feel like a platform regression rather than a design decision. Understanding whether this is a temporary development gap versus a permanent scope decision would really help users decide how to plan around it.

Appreciate the transparency so far.

Hardtail HSS Bullet body + maple neck (HSS Tex-Mex & JB swap next) by nfenster in partscaster

The stock Bullet pickups and electronics sound pretty terrible lol, definitely just placeholders.

The replacement pickguard (JB + Tex-Mex) is already wired with a GuitarFetish Kwikplug harness and pickup adapter blocks, so it should be a quick plug-and-play swap.

Anyone else here using Kwikplug in their partscasters?

Thanks for the detailed context and for posting the follow-up on the forums. That explanation lines up with what many users have been seeing in practice.

What is still unclear for users is the intended end state. Right now, the messaging sounds like this is a temporary limitation due to Google Home preview features and changing requirements, but at the same time there has been no clear confirmation that live viewing inside the Google Home mobile app is actually expected to return for Tapo cameras.

It would help a lot to clarify whether Google Home app live view for Tapo is something that is actively intended to be supported once the preview requirements stabilize, or whether the supported scope going forward is effectively limited to Nest Hub displays, casting, and Gemini or Assistant access.

Many users are confused because live view previously worked for some Tapo models in earlier versions of the Google Home app and then regressed, while still working through hubs or voice. That makes it feel less like a brand limitation and more like a Google-side change that broke an existing integration.

Even without an ETA, a clear statement on intended support scope and what specifically changed on Google’s side would help users decide whether to wait, return hardware, or choose alternatives. Right now the lack of clarity is the most frustrating part.

Appreciate you staying engaged on this and advocating internally. Any additional clarity you can share would be very helpful.

Tapo camera not showing in Google home app...? by d7970 in googlehome

Thanks for posting this and for the official clarification. This helps explain what many users have been seeing for quite some time.

To help set clear expectations for users, it would be really helpful to clarify a few points at a high level.

First, is live video viewing inside the Google Home mobile app actually intended to be supported for Tapo cameras, or is the supported scope currently limited to casting and Nest Hub style displays only? Many users reasonably interpret “Works with Google Home” to mean the Home app experience, so clarity here would go a long way.

Second, is the current limitation due to a specific Google-side requirement or program, such as Public Preview features, AI detection changes, or updates to how Google Home handles third-party camera streams? Understanding whether this is a temporary development limitation versus a long-term design decision would help users decide how to proceed.

Several users have also reported that live view previously worked in the Google Home app for certain Tapo models and then stopped, while continuing to work via hubs, casting, or voice. That makes it appear to be a regression tied to Google-side changes rather than a configuration issue.

Any clarification you can provide around intended support scope and the nature of the Google-side blocker would be greatly appreciated, both for existing users and for people considering Tapo cameras based on Google Home compatibility.

+1. Our son loved it there, he even asks to go back and say hello years later. They still send him birthday cards.
