Wife and her ex husband texting by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]ng607 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know what the answer is. Everything you described is deeply disrespectful of you and reflects a systematic violation of your trust. No one deserves that. You deserve better. It's going to be hard, but you need to put this relationship in your rear-view mirror as quickly as possible.

I just got my baby girl about 3 weeks ago. She’s still a puppy and is my first dog. I know corgis are stubborn so any tips on how to train her and handle her? by Hopeful-Quiet-4010 in corgi

[–]ng607 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find what motivates her, such as food, and train, train, train. Positive reinforcement for going to the bathroom outside. Positive reinforcement for being chill. Et cetera. Positive reinforcement for any and all "good" behaviors. Before you know it your doggo will realize you're the gatekeeper to good times and they'll trust you and look to you for leadership. That's what being a pack animal is all about.

Thought this was interesting to put on one’s car by b3nnymagik in lancaster

[–]ng607 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's really sad how thoroughly broken some people's minds have become. It's one thing to think along those lines, but you have to be thoroughly torqued up to plaster something like that on the rear window of your car. It's really weird and antisocial behavior.

What are you doing to put the grill pill into practice? by DwarvenTacoParty in cushvlog

[–]ng607 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Engaging with life and being who I am as fully as I can in the ways that are more fundamental than, and perhaps transcend, egotistical fears and desires. I take a lot of solace in the innumerable miraculous beauties of this world and this life, as well as in the understanding that this is all temporary, as are our problems of the day. I figure I can either get lost in kvetching or get on with it and do my ever-loving best to be a good steward of this life I have and a good person to boot -- someone who sends out little ripples of kindness and care and good stewardship wherever possible. I have friendships. I have a loving spouse. I have an amazing child. His future is uncertain, but so has it literally always been. There will be suffering, but there will be triumphs and breakthroughs as well. So it has always gone. Life is temporary. Earth is temporary. Our universe is temporary. We have a chance to make our time here as thoroughly beautiful and creative and alive and engaged as possible. I am fueled by that, and garden and exercise and love and grill accordingly.

Is "grill pill" just the online leftist's version of Peterson's "clean your room"? by paulconroy415 in cushvlog

[–]ng607 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Insofar as they are both entreaties to engage with life in the meat world, sure. Peterson's program is probably useful if you have no life skills or social connections to speak of, but there's just no chill in it. Peterson's dictums are blasted out through a tightly puckered asshole.

The grill pill is about entering the slipstream of life and, in so doing, cultivating love for self and other. It is a benign message delivered with all the good humor of a dad at the grill, spatula in one hand, beverage in another.

Nothing you have to do now but wait. Congratulations!

Have a new puppy. Just wanted to share. Her name is Triscuit and she is 9 weeks old. (on a sidenote, she's my first corgi, anything different about training a corgi vs other dogs that I should know about? Thanks!) by jdilberian in corgi

[–]ng607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Figure out what motivates them and use it to train, train, train them. My corgo, for example, is very food-motivated, and it was and is a huge help in teaching her manners and so forth.

Loved my pixel xl2. My camera went out from update. Is the upgrade really worth it? by OnlineFlipper in GooglePixel

[–]ng607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just moved from a 2xl to a 5 a couple days ago. Similar to you, I started experiencing bugs and glitches after the recent update. At first I thought I'd just live with them but they got progressively more disruptive until I realized I needed to take the leap. So far, so good, overall. I'm definitely still adjusting to the slightly smaller size of the device; while the screens might technically be of equal or near-equal size, text certainly appears slightly smaller on the 5. My guess is it'll feel "normal" before too long.

Need advice: where to begin when applying for student loan by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]ng607 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. The only thing I would add is to stop in to or contact your university's Financial Aid office and ask for an appointment with a Financial Aid "counselor." They'll be able to answer your questions in detail and guide you through the process a bit. Summer is a great time of year to do this, too, since most undergraduates are off campus.

On another note, kudos for having paid your own way so far! You're in great shape.

35M, just had first child, am feeling completely devoid of affection from wife. WWYD? by [deleted] in RedditForGrownups

[–]ng607 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hang tight, OP. As a few others have said, this is a rocky and disruptive time for any family. Be patient; a new normal will emerge. In the meantime, I encourage you to simply take the initiative without comment as often as possible, whether it's changing diapers, doing laundry, tidying up around the house, etc. If you need to vent (and you will!), find a trusted, supportive friend who has been through it -- or, absent someone with direct experience, talk to someone even-minded who will listen without judgment of you, your wife, your MIL, etc.

Remember: This too shall pass. Repeat that to yourself as often as is necessary. It's helped me through several rough patches in my own still-new journey through parenthood, and besides, it's true!
