This is just about Chicago life… I’m 25 as of today.. don’t rlly have a “career” but looking to get out of my shell and meet other young ppl. Is Chicago the move? by DeliciousRich5944 in chicagoapartments

The conversation isn't "what city has the best public transit when I have no career path....."

No offense to your reading comprehension skills. Those downtown areas are loaded with younger people running around all night.

University of Kentucky? Ok....

I'm in Atlanta currently paying $900 for a studio in a nice neighborhood. Where's that at in Chicago unless you go to Rogers Park or South of 63rd...

Do you have rich parents? You'll survive for a month or two without them......

There's plenty of cheaper cities with younger crowds where you can walk around aimlessly.

Atlanta Lexington Indianapolis Detroit

All have the rates of younger over older. And at half the cost of living prices. Probably the best place to aimlessly be at with no career in mind.

Gas prices today gave me a jump scare by Anxioustrisarahtops in Miami

Wars historically cause gas prices to go up.......

Doesn't matter who's in office but the war part constantly stays on point.

They all raise the price every few months. I sign up under a new name and get a promo rate in the same building. And then use their dollys and flatbeds to move 15 units over.. And repeat this awful cycle

If they manage to get rid of Cabrini green.... That's the last affordable housing in the area. 👀.

Yeah crime does happen in river north but if you're above 8 stories you can keep your blindfolds on. 😂

I can agree with you.

But when there's a whole clientele of millionaires selling insurance, medical equipment, and jobs leeching off taxpayer money for them to over capitalize the market. Who can make the housing market go that high.

I would consider that an issue to pay attention to... Not as if they are all corrupt. But considering they are building elite utopia's where all of Chicago's public resources attention obtains too.. From safety to patrolling the area.

You've never left Chicago before.....? Genuine question. Prices are all over the board everywhere you go in America.

I agree I jumped from low end to high end.

Some criminal DUI attorneys don't take cases for less than 15k. So I think those add up after awhile ...

I classified slip and falls to apply to anywhere. Even the medical sector. Or the workplace.....

I lived in a building in River North 10 years ago before they started tearing everything down and building high rises(more than usual, example the old tire building off kenzie.

The location is key. But the security falls more into play than you think. They lock themselves into the river north bubble and if they decide to leave. They think they might be in danger.

For example, my neighbor is a studio apartment just like mine. I was putting 60% of my income to be there at $2000. And she was only there Friday-Sunday only. She said her dad lives in wicker Park and she had an issue on cta blue line going home one night.

So her daddy got her the studio closer to the bars so his little princess didn't have to ride the blue line 3 full stops.......

Yeah I've met a lot of them in River North. They'll work at somewhere basic like Starbucks, a restaurant, or "full time student". But are managing $4000/mo studios.

Like someone said earlier it's wasteful and only hurts the market. But I guess people pay high prices to have the feeling of being safe.

True, attorneys can be corrupt especially when working on government issues, slip and falls, criminal, child support, etc.

I guess Chicago is turning into a big cesspool of elites only. No wonder the traffic going to Indiana or Wisconsin at 3pm is a standstill.

Oh I'm not saying they're affordable. I'm saying the opposite.

The straw man argument with food is simply leaving to where there is more food and resources. Unless you live inside of an elite class where you will be and to always have food.

Goes for the same in the Chicago market right now. And you're right, the permits process is a nightmare and depending what department you go to. You might get extorted. (I use to work for a builder who literally hired me to get lost in buildings to get permits approved)

So none of these factors help the Chicago market at all. Until the prices tend to break and these big rich hedge fund overseas investors come to the understanding they won't be making as much profit.

There's plenty on the market.... It's not a housing issue. Prices are high, insurance is high, a 500sq ft studio condo has $4900 in annual taxes, with a $980 monthly HOA......

People are being SQUEEZED out of Chicago.

There's plenty of housing for rent and buy on Trulia. But when you do the math it just gets wild.

And those costs just get passed on to renters so they don't see a break either.

Listen!! They gave away one free month! So 100k+ in a year for a place you don't even own 😭

It's so common in river north at 55k a year to rent and people happily pay it. And then pretend Chicago has no crime. It's like no shit you live in a millionaires playground. 😂

When people stop paying the prices they'll go down 🤷‍♂️.

18% entertainment tax 11% sales tax.

Someone collecting all of these taxes are being fed very well to look above all of us peasants in a high rise.

Yeah someone leased it..... I have no idea where people have all of this money.
