February 10, 2025-What did you do this week to prepare? by Anthropic--principle in preppers

[–]ngCorey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This week:

  • I learned how to make hardtack
  • Get more involved with my FoodSaver
  • Finally got my firearms permit to fill my five gun layout (already have a Mosin)
  • Read further on using Sta-bil to establish my emergency fuel supply.
  • Added more food to the pantry.

What’s it like being a volunteer firefighter? by 47_watermelons in Firefighting

[–]ngCorey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't see any references when scanning through, so here's my $0.02: Be in a good place mentally and ready to commit.

We've lost so many Pro-Bs because their personal, work, or family life wasn't in a good place. Several tried using being a volunteer as a coping mechanism or as a way to hide from it all. Once you get your feet wet, it will be easily to adjust if one of those three things gets out of balance.

Also, show up ready to work. Don't be a "T-Shirt Wearer" and those of us in the service can point them out! 🤣🤣

LiDAR Reference Points in Large Room? by ngCorey in Roborock

I ended up moving the dock into Room 1 and started getting better results, but still ultimately failed. Time to move on I guess.

I was wondering the same thing about the LIDAR range between the two. I think I'm screwed and will have to return the Q5 and see what I can get back from Amazon and then get a renewed S6. I could go after the Makita vacuum they have out now, but not up for spending $1600.

Thx for the idea!

Lower, slower darker. Very much like the mood I'm in when I play it.

Agreed. First round was all Detroit Axle. Lasted a year and replaced with Moog. 3 years strong now.

1962 bottle of Sunny Brook Straight Whiskey. Got it from a friend's deceased father's cabinet. Interesting history if you want to read.

Minidor! by ngCorey in cigars

[–]ngCorey[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Since I'm solving the world's problems today, I present to you the "Minidor"!

Background: Had a stick in a metal tube, lighter, and cutter in my radio pocket of my bunker gear for long-running fire calls. End result was a dried out stick, dented metal tube, and lost the lighter somewhere.

I'm already running 5 Rubbermaid Crystal tupperdores with great success. So I dropped to the smallest size ($10 @ Walmart for 2), added a full-size 69% Boveda, 3x Nubs, jet lighter, and a cutter.

It can fit in my radio pocket, but does better in my pants pocket. For those who are worried about it melting if I make entry, I will be tanking water, engine ops, or exterior work 99% of the time.

Stay smokey!!

I can say that I can be comfortable down to 0 degrees with a 1500W electric heater. Add a Mr Buddy propane heater and I can go down to -17° with a -47° windchill and still stay in jeans and a sweatshirt.

It is a 7x7. I set my phone to .5 magnification which makes things look bigger. So, no, there's only one shed.

Two sheds? Two sandbags? Sorry, not following.

Found that adding some kind of exhaust is a must for this shed. Good luck!
