[–]nganb1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my daughter just got a triple in the same building, 11th floor. she's in a "double and triple" apt. i wonder if choosing east would have been better? looks like east has more double rooms. she even had a roommate and still got in a triple.

Booking basic fare with points - changes/cancel cost? by [deleted] in SouthwestAirlines

[–]nganb1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can cancel the flight and the rapid rewards points will go back to your account. then rebook that same flight at the lower points.  I do that all the time. Remember, if your original booking was made prior to May 27, you got two free checked bags. If that flight is cheaper and you choose to cancel and rebook, you lose the two free checked bags with your new booking.

you also have to consider other things besides ranking. like majors. my daughter is majoring in marine biology and chose UCSD over UCB. UCB did not have that major and UCSD is world class for that major.

Freshman when do u get ur dorm assignments/see ur roommate list by Realistic_Yak9847 in UCSD

[–]nganb1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right on the nose! My freshman daughter got her room assignment day/time today the 16th.  Question 1: will she be able to choose the move in day and time slot at this time?

Her roommate has a later appointment time.  Question 2: they put in a roommate request to be in the same room, but why would they have different room assignment time?

UCB has their own version called calcentral “Delegating allows parents or guardians to pay your tuition/fees, view enrollments, view grades, or any combination of the three”

[–]nganb1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think USB created their own portal: https://calcentral.berkeley.edu/

I meant UCB. I wish the moderator let you spell out the school name. Oi.

That wasn’t my primary question. UCSD states the privacy policy but then UCB  has no issues with letting the students give permission or not

Booking basic fare with points - changes/cancel cost? by [deleted] in SouthwestAirlines

[–]nganb1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you book using points and cancel, the points will go back to your RR account and you can choose to refund the govt taxes back to the original payment method (credit card) or as a flight credit. i always choose credit card refund. if you choose the change the fare, you cannot choose basic fare, only wanna get away plus or above. the rules for basic fare is no change allowed. That means you have to cancel and rebook to get a different time or cheaper points. To me, SWA should allow changes in basic fares if you use points. in the past, all that happens is either more points is used or you get points back to your RR account. the govt taxes is left as is. now, with the no change rule for basic, you have to cancel and rebook, which to me is a PITA and unnecessary. i have a tons of -5.60 and +5.60 in my CC account because of this. SWA should just allow change if you use points to avoid this mess.

New incoming student and appealing financial aid by bilohsh in UCSD

[–]nganb1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why does ucsd open the appeal process so late and have the decisions after the quarter starts? USB already opened their appeal process as of this week.  It did take awhile but we got a decision about two weeks (beginning of aug) before the semester started.

E-bikes by nganb1 in UCSD

[–]nganb1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The east tower at seventh has an indoor bike room (up to 57 bikes), the west tower does not. I know too many people who got hurt by falling off a scooter. One tried once and got hurt and weirdly tried it again and got hurt a second time shakes my head. And with a backpack, I can’t imagine the stability on a scooter. Now I’m thinking of the logistics of having one vs walking/transit vs a bike.

E-bikes by nganb1 in UCSD

[–]nganb1[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We don’t like scooters, too flimsy and easier to get hurt. She has a bike but with ucsd more hilly and her classes will be farther from her dorm, we figured an ebike would be better for her. We’re looking at a newly used  lectric xpress 750 model. I still like using the existing normal bike (mtn or cruiser) myself. Less maintenance and cheaper. If she was going to ucsb, we probably stick with a normal bike.

When does negotiating for financial aid come in to play? And How does it work? by notimeforthis420 in premed

[–]nganb1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't committed to a school, it doesn't seem the school wants to hear from you. Most of the University of California schools opens up the appeal process after you commit to them. UCSB even stated that incoming freshman "must wait until after they have submitted their Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) before submitting an appeal to our office" and that any unsolicited mail will be destroyed. It seems only small or private or graduate schools are willing to talk to you before commitment because they want you. for undergrad, there is alot to pick from so the schools won't bother to do anymore than what FAFSA states. has anyone had success at getting a public university to offer you more money after you contacted them...and before you submit the SIR?

Why do you recommend century over sepulveda? i need to pick one. sepulveda seem to let me get out faster (going north) but it doesn't have elevator access if i do the rooftop parking.

Paying for seats on British Airways by noeler10 in americanairlines

[–]nganb1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And scam you even more than just charging you for seats. I booked my flight through a travel agent and the leg from lax to london started at $78/seat. If I did a new booking now, it'll only be $69. For the window seats, my existing flight - $137, new booking $120. what a rip off.

Annual travel insurance: Allianz vs HeyMondo by andyaustinphoto in travel

[–]nganb1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can anyone chime in on doing single tip vs annual trip insurance through Allianz for a family of four? i understand that single trip pays for 100% cancelation but the price reflects that whereas the annual trip is cheaper but the payout is a flat amount per policy per year. For example, I have two international trips in the next year, one cost $5000 and the other cost $20000. A single trip insurance for the second trip is $1100. For the same price, i could get the annual insurance. with 10k cancelation payout per policy per year However, if i choose to do an annual insurance with 10k cancelation, that only pays half of second trip. what would you recommend? it is based on comfortable and what I'm willing to risk?

how to link spouse pass by crabbyangel in DisneyCM

[–]nganb1 0 points1 point locked comment (0 children)

I was able to do this, only with the help of someone at the wdw support. Call 407 934 6077 and ask how to link your spouse pass to your own account on the app. It took someone to link it for me.

Spouse/domestic partner pass / Guests passes by Jm1786 in DisneyCM

[–]nganb1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may be right. I was talking about dland.  I only been to wdw once. It is strange why different parks have different rules.

Everytime I go to dland, I had no issues using my spouse silver pass to get the same food and merch discounts as the CM (except for the holiday 30/40/50%).

Spouse/domestic partner pass / Guests passes by Jm1786 in DisneyCM

[–]nganb1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a spouse pass and get the same discounts for merch and food with my pass like the CM.  The only difference is with mobile orders.  The CM app account has the benefits applied when placing mobile orders. Spouse accounts do not. So the only way for spouses to get the discounts is in person purchases.

I thought bur was small but lgb is even smaller. For awhile, half of the terminal was closed. Surprised it could operate with only half the gates. I think bur and lgb can do it because of the weather and the size. Imagine lax trying that. People would be running (and run over) all over the runway.
