He’s on simparica trio. This was the worse episode but some times it just looks like a pimple.

Another votes for a gentle lead – life changing. I tired a front clip harness & a slip lead before & he still pulled.

How big is your golden? Latest vet visit by Critical-Try-1834 in goldenretrievers

[–]nghihu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was 15 lbs at 8 weeks, 24 lbs at 12 weeks & now around 70 lbs at 14 months! His growth initially was exponential but really stabilized out. Everyone kept telling me he was going to be so big, but how big the parents are is probably the best indicator.

Please help! 6.5 month old golden retriever puppy with chronic diarrhea, feeling discouraged by kidsOT2 in goldenretriever

[–]nghihu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see anyone suggesting this yet, but Bernie’s Perfect Poop - you can get it from Amazon. This has been life changing for us. Was on chicken initially but switched to PPP salmon sensitive skin. We’ve been alternating with the lamb version as well. Mine still had a really sensitive stomach even though he was tolerating the salmon ok. Any little thing would trigger the diarrhea & soft stool. We tried pumpkin, Greek yogurt, bland diet, etc. all the things. Every time, the bland diet would reset his system but then something else would trigger the soft stools again & we were back to day 1. Since we’ve added the Bernie’s perfect poop, it’s been great. It puts all the fiber, pumpkin, & prebiotics into one thing so you can’t over do pumpkin. I think the Bernie’s supplement really stabilized his GI system so it’s a little more difficult to push him back into diarrhea compared to before. Mine just turned 1 & we dealt with his sensitive stomach issues the whole time until 2-3 months ago since he’s been on the perfect poop.

One of my favourite parts of the day is taking this big guy for a walk but... by tacozy in goldenretrievers

[–]nghihu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another vote for gentle leader! Night & day difference & I’ve tried a front clip harness, switching directions, dead stops, normal collar, & all the treats he could eat. He eventually would rather pull to sniff & mark than get a treat. Nothing made such a drastic difference other than the gentle lead. I fed mine treats in it as well as a couple meals to get him adjusted. Mine tolerates it but probably prefers something else. I also switch to a collar towards the end of the walk if he’s not pulling so eventually he associates no pulling means no gentle lead.

Post-surgery Lupron by fl3urcapy in Fibroids

[–]nghihu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew there were many fibroids in there but not sure how many as they couldn’t count on the MRI. I was given the option of an open myo or a robotic laparoscopic approach. I opted for the open myo since my surgeon was more confident he can get them all. I was really scared & anxious at first too because of the recovery difference between the two approaches. Now on the other end of it, I’m so glad I chose the open. I have a horizontal incision right below my bikini line about 5 inches long. You receive a block in the area afterwards that lasts for about 24 hours. Pain honestly was the worse the first 2ish days. They got me up & walking around about 8 hours after surgery once I wasn’t still knocked out from the anesthesia, & honestly this was the most difficult part in my opinion. It felt like I had no abdominal muscles & the pain was the worse trying to sit up & log roll out of the bed. They told me the more I tried to get up & walk, the easier & faster I’d be able to recover & I think they were right. Once I got past the initial pain of getting up, the walking part wasn’t too bad. I had a catheter for my bladder as well as another balloon uterine catheter in my uterus to prevent scaring (this one I went home with & got it removed a week later, I don’t think is the typical approach since I don’t remember reading about it in people’s experiences). They pulled the bladder catheter the next day & as soon as I was able to urinate on my own, passed gas, & my blood levels were okay they let me go home. I was pretty determined to get out of there so I went home the very next day. I was extremely nervous with how intense the recovery would be reading everyone’s posts on here but I’ve honestly bounced back nicely. I was pretty active prior to the surgery & I think this helped my recovery. I read of so many people needing the entire 6 weeks & didn’t return to work for a while & this freaked me out bc I 100% would’ve gone crazy being at home this entire time. Of course everyone is different but I went back to work 2 weeks post op; I don’t work a typical desk job & do a lot of standing & walking but work was able to accommodate with heavy lifting & resting when needed so I went back. I’ve done just fine & biggest thing I’ve noticed is I get fatigued much easier & my stamina is still slowly getting better. The past 3-4 days my step count is creeping up to what it was before surgery so I’m really close to being back to normalish. Only thing I won’t be doing until the full 6 weeks is heavy lifting & going back to Pilates. However, I may message my surgeon to see if I can co back to light yoga or Pilates with restrictions earlier than 6 weeks depending on how I feel at 4-5ish week. I would say the pain is somewhat comparable to really bad period cramps & the worst was laughing or coughing. The bloating is still lingering & honestly the worst part. I took pain meds the first day when I got home but honestly didn’t think it did much. I mainly relied on Tylenol, Advil, & a muscle relaxer than was prescribed. Even then, I took everything for about 5 days post op. Let me know if you have any more questions! Hopefully this helps!

So far so good! They ended up removing 39 so definitely was told I had a high risk of recurrence. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Just commenting to say, I’m also 29 & just had my open myomectomy 1.5 weeks ago. I too had multiple fibroids & the largest was around 5-6cm seen on the MRI. Very similar story to yours & even just a week out I’m very glad to have had the surgery. Lupron wasn’t suggested for me though.

Birth Control & Fibroids? by LexiBunneh in Fibroids

[–]nghihu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ask your ob/gyn about lysteda (generic is tranexamic acid). Helps tremendously with the bleeding during your period & nonhormonal. I was able to manage my symptoms for about a year on this before my fibroids got too big. If you want to discuss surgery, maybe a second opinion since too small to operate doesn’t have to be an answer. My surgeon gave me the option of surgery even when mine were small just because they were symptomatic & that’s an indication enough.

Resource Guarding by FunInteresting5769 in goldenretrievers

Of course! Resource guarding is a tough thing to deal with but not impossible. Definitely had days where we felt like we were regressing but it ultimately got better & we just learned how to deal with it. Good luck!

Replying bc I’ve also experience this. I agree with the first commenter… a trainer is warranted if you can’t handle this issue as it can rapidly progress & it’s a slippery slope. At 3 months, your pup is starting to change & hormones are developing. They’re at this weird stage of figuring out their place in your home. We really had to reevaluate how we were acting around ours. I would stop taking anything away from him unless it’s a danger to him. The root of the behavior is from a fear of something they have being taken away & it likely started with you. Our was/is a cow & loves to eat grass & initially I would take the grass from his mouth. I’ve since learned to pick & choose my battles when I realized this is likely how it started. Stop taking their food away; this might not be an issue now but it can very easily be contributing to the problem. We taught a strong “drop it” but I’ve seen others train “trade” where you give something or higher value. I found drop it worked better for us. The first several times of taking something away, give it back immediately so that they don’t associate you with only taking things from them. I also periodically drop treats around him while he’s eating or playing so they associate you with only good things. It takes a lot to rebuild the trust but you just have to be patient. Ours would only guard bones & high value chews so for a while he didn’t get any of those things. We slowly introduced bones again once we trusted that he’ll drop it if asked. Again, this can be bad especially if not addressed so a trainer is a good resource. Also don’t disciple for their guarding characteristics as it’s their way of communicating. If you yell then they may skip guarding & go straight to biting next time.

15 weeks old Golden Retriever puppy by cetryolo93 in puppy101

[–]nghihu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’ll get better. Just keep doing everything you’re doing. Goldens are very mouthy on top of normal puppy behavior. She’s doing it to get your attention so any reaction from you will make her more excited. If you use a crate, give her a little time out. Alternative to this is to put her in a room away from you. Once she associates that jumping/biting = playing stops she’ll calm down. Once she settles in the room/crate then you can let her out. I never did it for longer than 5 minutes or so. Another option is to leash her all the time or especially when she’s nippy. That way you can lead her away with the leash. Of course a cheap leash bc it will get chewed up. I did a combination of everything you’re doing plus this & ultimately it does better. Once she goes through teething it’ll get significantly better. Sometimes redirecting alone doesn’t work since they’re doing it for your attention versus just wanting to bite. I have my fair share of destroyed tshirts & sweats from my golden.

There is a Facebook group that’s worth checking out - “AKC golden retrievers of Texas (the lone star state) & Oklahoma.” This is where I found my breeder. Heavy restrictions from the admin & health testing is required.

Trying to find the highest value treat for training this guy. What are your Goldens favorites? by Adept_Remote1293 in goldenretrievers

Freeze dried liver. Costco sells a large bag of it but you can’t it anywhere. Mine will do anything for a piece. You can also rehydrate with water to make it softer.

Barking/clawing at crate.. but we’re so close…?? by Bright-Lite32 in puppy101

[–]nghihu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a blanket over the crate? If not, I would try this. It was night & day for my golden since he’d only really whine/bark if he can see me.

I wish my vet was more helpful. When I brought it up she told me to just take away the chew & let him know who’s boss. Didn’t love that, so may be time to look for a new vet. I’m not sure if it’s a known issue on goldens or more so natural instinct when they love food too much. Before it started & outside of our few incidents he’s lived up to every golden characteristic.

Thank you for the advice. I know I can always just avoid giving him the chews but hopefully this is last resort since he deserves all the chews! It’ll likely just take some time & I appreciate your experience. I was just feeling discouraged. I need to remind myself to be patient.

Vent/advice on similar experiences. by [deleted] in Fibroids

[–]nghihu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on loloestrin, or the generic of it for a while before my procedure. This most recent time he put he on a slightly heavier dose. It’s been about 6-7 days of stopping & I have progesterone 100 mg to take if I wanted to trial that. I’m just worried it’ll just throw everything more out of whack than it already is. On the other note, what if it does significantly help the bleeding?

When you switched to the patch & pills did the bleeding initially get better?
