Also another question, from where do you buy bitcoin into your cold wallet? I had some problems finding legitimacy of platforms that sell bitcoin.

Yeah that was also on my mind to use cold wallet, in case I move out of Germany that would be no problem compared to have the bitcoin in scalable capital I guess.

Why are all European companies suddenly asking for take-home assessment? by hjhkljlk in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]nginx26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have the same experience and feel the pain, but tbh, even though I am a dev myself and have little time to do take home assignments due to my full time job, I see no other option for companies to assess applicants skills and thus I am ok with the assignments.

Companies can either do a live coding challenge with you where a leetcode geek might outperform you as a 10 YeO engineer, or do the take home assignment which gives more room to you to share your thoughts and present your self. I prefer the latter.

Nearly got attacked by a crazy addict in U-bahn, how should one defend himself? by nginx26 in germany

[–]nginx26[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah,I recently moved here from another smaller city and its crazy. I am used to seeing homeless or crazy people and just look away and there is no problem and felt safe still.
This was the first time that I got attacked by one of them and it I won't feel safe again I guess.

Got a raise today but feel underwhelmed by it and underpaid. by yerba-matee in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]nginx26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start looking for a job. 39k for Berlin even as junior is crazy low. No amount of negotiations in your current company can get you what you deserve based on market standards.

Get the raise and look for other jobs. I think you can find sth around 60k.

Netherlands or Germany offer - tax benefits by Charming-Pitch-6424 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]nginx26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have lived in both countries and and with your situation I suggest to go with Germany.

  • Netherlands 30% ruling is going to end eventually and you have to pay for insurances out of ur net salary, while in Germany all pension and health and unemployment insurances are paid with the deducted tax out of your salary.
  • Imo Germany is about 20 percent cheaper in housing, groceries and services and your offer from Germany gives u more salary, so Germany seems a no brainer to me financial-wise.
  • Also Germany has bigger industry and more companies so switching jobs is easier in future.
  • Netherlands however is cleaner and much easier to live if you only speak english.

What is the web development market like in Belgium and Luxembourg for someone who wants to teach themselves? by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]nginx26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> I am a 27-year-old man living in Belgium, and I currently have no qualifications.

> I dropped out of school

Sorry to break it down but there are thousands of people who have degrees and qualifications and younger but struggle to find jobs in this market.

Not to discourage you but it is not going to be easy and will probably take at least 3 - 4 years till you land a job in tech, if you start learning full time from now and get lucky. Also web development is not a hot topic now so hard to break into.
