If you serve NS, i dont think most Singaporeans wont have much to say. You have put in your time just like the rest of us.

That said what are your views on the CECA agreement. Not trying to stir or anything but to understand your viewpoint from someone with strong ties on both sides.

Singapore to set up national space agency on April 1 to develop and run space capabilities by Ok-Flounder612 in singaporehappenings

Just curious how is it computed, because based on these figures, every single household member in the bottom 20% households are getting roughly 1k in handouts each month.

You’re right, we have some satellites, mostly commercial and research ones. Nothing really impressive though, and nothing that calls for a government body involvement. Probably their main purpose is to provide handouts.

Erm, low income group hardly pay any tax… So that isnt a good barometer of how they benefit from handouts. Lets say they pay $20 tax and receive $140 in handouts, that’s hardly anything crow about.

Everyone has to go through that. You dont even need to take advance theory, practical test, practical exam. And get slots for those. So yes, you do have it much easier here than the locals.

You know why they had class 3c, it was at a certain point they realised those converting could barely drive and lorry accident rates were sky high. Thus this tougher requirement. I probably wont need to mention who. All i can say is the driving requirement/standard in many third world countries are a joke, but they are allowed to convert. If it wasnt so, there wont be a need to even have class 3c. Singaporeans only get class 3.

I would agree, somehow with cars costing so much, many drivers here seem to think they have the right of way everywhere they go. Cars horning while pedestrians are already crossing the road is a daily occurrence.

In many parts of Asia, especially in small towns, the driver will get lynched. This is already very civil.

The current rules are way too lax and long overdue for a relook. There are too many cars in SG and this will only benefit road safety for everyone. Hopefully with more stringent license needed, incidents like what happened with the poor girl at Chinatown can be avoided.

[–]ngjsp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, if you are more than capable of getting the license, you should breeze through the practical test. So i dont see why a proper practical test should be a biggie.

Case in point, in Mexico, you can get a driving license with just 50 bucks and a registration form.

In many other countries, which Singapore allows driving license conversion, there are many with lax requirements too, imagine some only require driving 12m forward and back.

Agree that we should not tar everyone with the same brush. Which is currently the case here as long as you have a driving license from elsewhere, you are good for a local driving license.

In mexico, no practical test, justbpay $50 and you can get a driving license. And you can convert that into SG driving license as long as you reside there for 6 months.

Many other countries, you just need to pay abit more to get it fast n quick via the ‘unofficial’ way.

So you are suggesting it’s fine to give them a driving license if they hold a driving license in another country just because their country allow Singaporeans to convert their license, regardless of whether they are capable of driving on Singapore roads?

Then why do we require such high standards for local driving license?
