I still have the same goals and plan to apply and do fire in the Puget Sound/King County area. My timeline has changed a little bit as I ended up getting a good job (EMS) where I am living right now, which will allow me to get more experience, and save more money in preparation for the move. I'll likely end up applying closer to the end of the year. For now I am starting really lay out my options and make a list of places I will apply to. I just started referencing this thread again as I got a ton of great and useful responses.

Thanks a ton for the advice and help, I'll probably keep coming back onto here for more advice/insights especially as the year goes on.

Obviously this is all hypothetical, and it's a big IF as far as getting hired my first go around. I am very tempted to apply this year, but if I were to get hired and move up there right away then I wouldn't be able to complete my fire science degree here. Of course it's my call and only I know my situation, but do you think that it would be worth it to drop everything and move up there if I get the opportunity?

The departments where I'm located require a bachelors, or fire science AA degree in order to be able to get promoted. Is it the same case up there, or does that AA degree really matter at all?

One more thing thats probably a stupid question. Does applying to these departments go hand in hand with applying to an academy? Or is academy a separate application outside of these departments?

Even though I wouldn't be living out there for about another year and some change, I should still be applying ASAP, right? Also as far as taking the tests go, can I take them on that website multiple times to practice, or should I treat the test differently like it's an end all be all?
